92_HR0716 LRB9216359RHrh 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 3 Representatives wish to express their sincere condolences to 4 the family and friends of Minnie Blanchard Pressley, who 5 passed away on February 23, 2002; and 6 WHEREAS, Minnie Blanchard Pressley was born in Toupelo, 7 Mississippi, to the late Clara and James Blanchard; she 8 married Charles C. Pressley on April 1, 1973; and 9 WHEREAS, Mrs. Pressley was educated in the Chicago Public 10 School system and graduated from CVS High School; during high 11 school, she began her business career as an entrepreneur; and 12 WHEREAS, After graduation, Mrs. Pressley worked part-time 13 at Ben Vold groceries on 57th and Prairie Avenue; four years 14 later, she became the owner of Minnie's Food and Liquor; and 15 WHEREAS, Mrs. Pressley not only provided job 16 opportunities for her family, but also to the members of the 17 community; and 18 WHEREAS, After retiring from the grocery business, Mrs. 19 Pressley later decided to return to work as a manager's 20 assistant in the children's and women's accessories 21 department for JC Penney in the River Oaks Shopping Mall; and 22 WHEREAS, Minnie Pressley was a precious, sweet, gentle, 23 quiet, charming, and affectionate lady who possessed the 24 tenacity and strength of a lion; recently, she joined the 25 Glenwood Missionary Bible Church in Glenwood, where she 26 participated in Bible Study and other church related 27 activities; and 28 WHEREAS, The passing of Minnie Blanchard Pressley will be 29 deeply felt by all who knew and loved her, especially her 30 husband, Charles C. Pressley; her daughters, Vanessa Victory, -2- LRB9216359RHrh 1 Earlene Spaulding, and Ameena Gray; her stepson, Anthony 2 Pressley; her brother, Andre Blanchard; her sisters, Linda, 3 Judy, and Beverly Ann; her brothers, JC and Jimmy; her 4 sister-in-law, Anita J. Porter; a host of nieces, nephews; 5 and her special friend, Lauren Mosley; she was preceded in 6 death by her parents, Clara and James Blanchard and her 7 sister, Clara Blanchard; therefore, be it 8 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 9 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 10 we mourn, along with all who knew her, the death of Minnie 11 Blanchard Pressley of Chicago, Illinois; and be it further 12 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 13 presented to the family of Minnie Blanchard Pressley with our 14 sincere condolences.
