92_HR0728 LRB9216421RHrh 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 3 Representatives wish to express their sincere condolences to 4 the family and friends of Ollie Mae Sargent, who passed away 5 on February 28, 2002; and 6 WHEREAS, Ollie Mae Dabbs was born on November 1, 1923 in 7 Dorsey, Mississippi to the union on Thomas Dabbs, Sr. and 8 Estella Dabbs; she was the wife of Collie Sargent, who 9 preceded her in death; to this union, eight children were 10 born; and 11 WHEREAS, Mrs. Sargent graduated from Carver High School 12 in Tupelo, Mississippi in May 1943; she attended Rush College 13 in Holly Springs, Mississippi, where she obtained her 14 teaching certificate; she later taught school in Marks 15 Saltillo and Lee County, Mississippi; when she moved to East 16 St. Louis, Illinois, she worked as the director of Community 17 Center in the South End at Lucas Elementary School; while 18 working there, she received many professional certificates 19 from the Washington University School of Social Work; she 20 later accepted a position as a teacher's aide at East St. 21 Louis High School in District 189 until her retirement; in 22 addition, she was the chairman of the board of Denverside 23 Redevelopment; and 24 WHEREAS, The passing of Ollie Mae Sargent will be deeply 25 felt by all who knew and loved her, especially her children, 26 Orleta Joyce Wilson, Charity Ann (Eric) Johnson, Jimmie 27 Collie, John Eric (Deborah), Shirley Kay (Lemar) Coleman, 28 Charles (JoAnn) Peterson, and Pamela Marie Sargent; her 29 mother, Estella Dabbs; her brothers and sisters, Thomas 30 Dabbs, Jr., Jessie S. Dabbs, Iona Williams, Sherlean Hudson, 31 Isom Dabbs, and Annie L. (Ernest) Williams; her 32 grandchildren, Michael, Angela (John), Orleta, LaShyral, -2- LRB9216421RHrh 1 Courtney, Whitney, Erika, Sharice, Brandon, Aaron, and 2 Johnna; her great-grandchildren, DeMarco, Michele, Elisha, 3 and John; her nieces and nephews; and her other relatives and 4 friends; she was preceded in death by her son, Rufus Monel; 5 therefore, be it 6 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 7 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 8 we mourn, along with all who knew her, the death of Ollie Mae 9 Sargent of East St. Louis, Illinois; and be it further 10 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 11 presented to the family of Ollie Mae Sargent with our sincere 12 condolences.
