92_HR0742 LRB9216402BHbh 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 3 Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Ed 4 Seely Jr. of Momence, who passed away recently; and 5 WHEREAS, Mr. Seely was born in Chicago Heights to Ed and 6 Florence Seely; his parents operated the tavern and resort, 7 Glorydale, and raised chickens that were featured in dinners 8 when Glorydale was also a restaurant; and 9 WHEREAS, Ed Seely Jr. took over Glorydale from his 10 parents in 1966, operating the business with his wife, Vera; 11 and 12 WHEREAS, Mr. Seely adopted the Kankakee river, fishing, 13 boating and hunting along it, exploring its bayous and 14 wetlands, and putting his energies and his education in 15 biology and bacteriology to work on its behalf; and 16 WHEREAS, Mr. Seely was a board member, secretary, and 17 president of the Kankakee River Conservancy District for 26 18 years; and 19 WHEREAS, Mr. Seely was very dedicated and cared for the 20 Kankakee river; he and the Conservancy District trustees did 21 much for the river with the little money allotted to them, 22 often doing volunteer work; and 23 WHEREAS, Mr. Seely brought scientific focus to concerns 24 about the river and was readily able to understand and talk 25 the language of government scientists about the river and its 26 problems; and 27 WHEREAS, Mr. Seely served as a member of the Kankakee 28 River Commission; he was a co-sponsor with the Momence Anchor 29 Club of the Kankakee River Drag Boat Races, and crowds would 30 watch the races from Glorydale on the south shore of the -2- LRB9216402BHbh 1 river and from the Anchor Club on the north bank; and 2 WHEREAS, Mr. Seely was a frequent contributor to the 3 Daily Journal "Outdoor" section, writing articles about 4 fishing conditions and results for the area from Momence 5 east, and to other publications and broadcasts about the 6 river; and 7 WHEREAS, At Glorydale, Ed Seely Jr. was an interesting, 8 witty, genial, and entertaining host, whose percussion 9 talents were often shared in the Glorydale house band, "The 10 Waynes"; and 11 WHEREAS, Ed Seely Jr. will be deeply missed by all those 12 who knew him and loved him, especially his wife Vera, and all 13 those who frequented the Glorydale Resort and the Kankakee 14 River; therefore, be it 15 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 16 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 17 we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of 18 Ed Seely Jr.; and be it further 19 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 20 presented to the family of Ed Seely Jr. with our sincere 21 condolences.
