92_HR0763 LRB9216470BHbh 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 3 Representatives are proud to recognize outstanding 4 achievements in high school athletics in this State; and 5 WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that the Holy Cross 6 Junior Varsity Cheerleaders won first place at the 18th 7 annual State of Illinois Cheerleading Championships in the 8 Junior Varsity Division; and 9 WHEREAS, The championships were held at the Prairie 10 Capital Convention Center in Springfield on March 9th and 11 10th; this was the squad's first time ever competing at the 12 championships; and 13 WHEREAS, Holy Cross qualified for state at a December 14 regional at St. Viator and competed against twenty-six of the 15 best high school junior varsity teams to win the state 16 finals; and 17 WHEREAS, With being crowned the state champions, the 18 junior varsity squad finished the year undefeated; Holy Cross 19 placed first at many different competitions, including the 20 National Cheerleaders Association (NCA); the Great America 21 Cheerleading Championships; the Illinois Cheerleading Coaches 22 Association (ICCA) St. Viator Regional; the Northwestern 23 University Invitational; the ICCA Riverside-Brookfield 24 Regional; the Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) Windy 25 City Championships; and the Illinois State Cheerleading 26 Championships; and 27 WHEREAS, The Holy Cross Junior Varsity Cheerleaders owe 28 their success to incredible team work and dedication; the 29 girls are currently freshmen and sophomores at Mother Guerin, 30 Trinity, and Resurrection high schools; they showed 31 incredible confidence during the finals and were extremely -2- LRB9216470BHbh 1 prepared and relaxed entering the event; and 2 WHEREAS, The Holy Cross Junior Varsity Cheerleaders are 3 Audrey Bejar, Frankie Bluestein (Captain), Amy Brickman, Gia 4 Cerino, Annette Cioch, Claire Connolly, Jamie Cummings, April 5 DiStefano (Captain), Theresa Fifarek, Cath Garrity, Colleen 6 Gregus, Kira Grottola, Katie Leonardo, Stefanie Mirabile, 7 Joelle Paterno, Nicole Romando, Daniella Smid, and Angela 8 Wilk; they are coached by Nancy Donlan and Roseann Scorpo, 9 and are assisted by Jean Petrucci and Donna Skach; therefore, 10 be it 11 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 12 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 13 we congratulate the Holy Cross Junior Varsity Cheerleaders 14 for their outstanding performance and first place victory at 15 the 18th annual State of Illinois Cheerleading Championships; 16 and be it further 17 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution is 18 presented to the Holy Cross Junior Varsity Cheerleading squad 19 as an expression of our esteem.
