92_HR0792 LRB9216575BHbh 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 3 Representatives are proud to honor significant events in the 4 lives of the citizens of this State; and 5 WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that R.L. Songer of 6 Catlin has earned the Catlin Citizen of the Year Award given 7 by the Catlin Lions Club; the award will be presented on 8 April 18, 2002, at the United Methodist Church Fellowship 9 Hall during a banquet in Mr. Songer's honor; and 10 WHEREAS, The requirements for earning the Citizen of the 11 Year award specify that the recipient must support Catlin in 12 at least three examples of community service; Mr. Songer has 13 lived in Catlin his whole life and feels it is important to 14 give back to the community; this attitude, and his constant 15 support of community activities, is what decidedly earned him 16 the award; and 17 WHEREAS, Mr. Songer currently serves on the village's 18 zoning commission and has been an active 65 year member with 19 the Catlin United Methodist Church, where he sings in the 20 choir; and 21 WHEREAS, Mr. Songer was a businessman in Catlin for 40 22 years as a partner of Songer Chevrolet; he was also involved 23 in the American Legion and the Boy Scouts, was a member of 24 the Catlin School Board during which a new gymnasium and farm 25 shop were built, was a past president of the Lions Club, and 26 has served as a volunteer firefighter; and 27 WHEREAS, Mr. Songer served his country during World War 28 II as a fighter pilot; and 29 WHEREAS, Mr. Songer has always enjoyed the small town 30 atmosphere, and purchased the house next to which he was 31 born; he believes that only through being involved in the -2- LRB9216575BHbh 1 work of the town and community can one realize all the 2 benefits; therefore, be it 3 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 4 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 5 we congratulate R.L. Songer of Catlin on receiving the Catlin 6 Citizen of the Year Award, for which he is most deserving; 7 and be it further 8 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 9 presented to R.L. Songer as an expression of our esteem.
