92_HR0794 LRB9216581BHbh 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 3 Representatives are proud to recognize outstanding 4 achievements in high school athletics; and 5 WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Michael McKean 6 of Cissna Park was named the 2002 News-Gazette All-Area Boys' 7 Basketball Player of the Year; and 8 WHEREAS, Michael McKean grew up in a household where 9 sports were constantly being televised, and his love for the 10 game of basketball began at an early age; and 11 WHEREAS, Michael McKean's father, Leonard, was a high 12 school basketball coach at 3 different schools when Michael 13 was growing up and his earliest recollections of hitting the 14 court with his father do not involve being handed a 15 basketball in the crib, but rather experiencing what it is 16 like to be part of a team; and 17 WHEREAS, Michael McKean has played school basketball 18 since the fifth grade, prospered through the ranks, and 19 played on the varsity team as a freshman for Cissna Park 20 Crescent Iriquois (CPCI); when his sophomore season finished, 21 he was an honorable mention all-state selection; this year, 22 the 6-foot-five senior forward, who was a multipurpose 23 threat, averaged 22.5 points and six rebounds a game in 24 leading the Timberwolves to their fourth straight Class A 25 regional title; the third-team Class A all-stater by the 26 Associated Press and IBCA second-team all-stater is the 27 program's all-time leading scorer with 1,755 points and set a 28 school steals record with 168; Michael McKean also qualified 29 for the Class A state golf tournament last fall; and 30 WHEREAS, Michael McKean will go to Illinois Wesleyan this 31 fall to play basketball and study math; the mild-mannered -2- LRB9216581BHbh 1 senior ranks fourth in his senior class; his modesty and 2 shyness have allowed him to handle the accolades he has 3 achieved, especially in a small town where everybody knows 4 his name; therefore, be it 5 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 6 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 7 we congratulate Michael McKean on his performance and his 8 achievement of the 2002 News-Gazette All-Area Boys' 9 Basketball Player of the Year; and be it further 10 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 11 presented to Michael McKean as an expression of our esteem.
