92_HR0814 LRB9216633RHrh 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 3 Representatives are pleased to recognize milestone events in 4 the lives of the citizens of the State of Illinois; and 5 WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Stephen Irwin 6 Arnold is retiring in June 2002 after a 34-year teaching 7 career at West Chicago Community High School; and 8 WHEREAS, Mr. Arnold is a 1963 graduate of DeKalb High 9 School; he attended North Central College and received his 10 bachelor's degree from Northern Illinois University in 1968 11 and his master's degree from the University of Northern 12 Colorado in 1974; and 13 WHEREAS, Mr. Arnold began his teaching career at West 14 Chicago Community High School in 1968; during his tenure, he 15 has coached football, track, and cross country and ran the 16 Legislative Semester for 19 semesters; in addition, his class 17 proposed and saw the passage of a paper recycling bill in the 18 General Assembly; the Governor flew to West Chicago Community 19 High School to sign the bill into law; and 20 WHEREAS, Mr. Arnold also ran a Ski and Outdoor Tripping 21 program in conjunction with the West Chicago Park District, 22 coached Tri-City Soccer for 11 seasons, volunteered for Camp 23 Manito-wish YMCA in Boulder Junction, Wisconsin, and was a 24 ski instructor for 17 years at Villa Olivia Ski Area in 25 Bartlett; and 26 WHEREAS, Stephen Arnold will be remembered for riding his 27 bike to work everyday for 28 years, and walking to work for 28 the last six years; and 29 WHEREAS, Stephen Arnold is the proud husband of Peggy 30 Arnold, and the father of Kate Arnold, who is graduating from 31 Stanford University on June 16, 2002; therefore, be it -2- LRB9216633RHrh 1 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 2 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 3 we congratulate Stephen Arnold on his retirement after an 4 outstanding 34-year teaching career at West Chicago Community 5 High School and we wish him well in all of his future 6 endeavors; and be it further 7 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 8 presented to Stephen Arnold as an expression of our esteem.
