92_HR0842 LRB9216688BHbh 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, This Illinois House of Representatives has 3 learned with the greatest sadness of the passing of 4 sportsman, businessman, and community leader -- Joe Jemsek; 5 and 6 WHEREAS, Throughout his 88 years, Joe Jemsek became 7 synonymous with the notion that great golf courses can be 8 accessible to the average player; and 9 WHEREAS, Joe Jemsek began his journey through the world 10 of golf at the age of 6 when he hitchhiked from his home in 11 Argo, Illinois to pester the Coghill brothers into letting 12 him caddie at their new golf course in Lemont; and 13 WHEREAS, From caddy, Joe Jemsek went to parking attendant 14 to cook to caddie master to assistant golf pro and, at age 15 17, to the pro tour; and 16 WHEREAS, Joe Jemsek opted to own and operate golf 17 courses, creating and grooming the fabled Coghill #4 - 18 Dubsdread - until it became one of the most highly rated 19 courses in the nation and the home of the Western Open; and 20 WHEREAS, He also created the highly rated Pine Meadows 21 Course in Lake County and St. Andrews in West Chicago; and 22 WHEREAS, Regardless of his success or hectic schedule, 23 Joe Jemsek was never too busy to chat with patrons and always 24 had a tip or a quip for the junior golfers as they prepared 25 to play; and 26 WHEREAS, Nearly every golf organization recognized the 27 heart, energy, and personal commitment Joe Jemsek brought to 28 the game by bestowing honors including the inaugural Herb 29 Graffis Award from the National Golf Association, 1991 PGA 30 golf professional of the year, and enshrinement in the -2- LRB9216688BHbh 1 Illinois Golf Hall of Fame; therefore be it 2 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 3 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 4 we extend our deepest sympathies to the family of Joe Jemsek 5 and offer our gratitude to the Jemsek family for all the 6 courtesies extended by the man regarded as the "Patriarch of 7 Public Golf" to the people of Illinois over the decades; and 8 be it further 9 RESOLVED, That one day in the not too distant future the 10 powers of the golf world recognize Joe Jemsek's profound 11 contributions to public golf by awarding the U.S. Open to 12 Dubsdread; and be it further 13 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 14 presented to the family of Joe Jemsek with our sincere 15 condolences.
