92_HR0880 LRB9216803BHbh 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 3 Representatives are proud to congratulate Viva La Gente of 4 Chicago for their positive influence on the youth of Chicago; 5 and 6 WHEREAS, Viva La Gente, which means, "Up With People", 7 was established in 1989 and is the biggest cultural youth 8 group in Chicago, with members ranging in age from 4 through 9 16; the sole purpose of Viva La Gente is to spread the 10 message of love and brotherhood to the world through music, 11 without political or religious motivation; the group sings 12 and dances to music that only carries a positive message; and 13 WHEREAS, Viva La Gente has represented youth in many 14 public presentations throughout Chicago and various states; 15 they have performed at The Field Museum, the Pan American 16 Festivals, Viva Chicago, Taste of Chicago, Channel 44 17 Brechita, Wright College, the Soccer League Opening, the 18 Shore Drive Country Club, the McCormick Place Hotel, the 19 Norwegian American Hospital Festival, and the 1995 Viva 20 Chicago opening; Viva La Gente had the honor of being present 21 at the Richard J. Daley Plaza for special events, and at the 22 Inaugural Ceremony of the Honorable Governor Jim Edgar; and 23 WHEREAS, Recently, Viva La Gente reached out to the youth 24 in their community by bringing presentations to grammar 25 schools and high schools such as Churrs, Clemente, Kelvyn 26 Park, Duprey, H.I.P.P.Y., Sabin, Lozano, as well as the 27 Chicago Park District Yamborines; and 28 WHEREAS, Viva La Gente has completed tours to Indiana's 29 Puerto Rican Festival, Cleveland, Orlando, and four different 30 towns in Puerto Rico; where they were welcomed with much 31 warmth and re-invited for future visits; and -2- LRB9216803BHbh 1 WHEREAS, Viva La Gente's most prestigious performances 2 were during June 1996, at the Sheraton Hotel for the 3 Honorable First Lady Mrs. Hilary Clinton, and in 1997 in 4 Dallas at the Texas State Fair; in 1998, Viva La Gente was 5 invited to perform in Puepla, Mexico and surrounding towns 6 for the more needy families; in 1999, the group was invited 7 to Universal Studios to perform; and 8 WHEREAS, Viva La Gente was the proud recipient of two 9 first place prizes at the Hispanic Star Search of 1992, one 10 in each category they represented, the Duo/Group Vocal and 11 Best Youth Performer, and, in 1993, the group received two 12 first place prizes in Outstanding Youth Performer and 13 Duo/Group Vocal; Viva La Gente's most recent accomplishment 14 was the recording of their new CD titled, "Abriendo Caminos 15 Para Un Nuevo Destino"; and 16 WHEREAS, Viva La Gente also enjoys making presentations 17 at churches and social agencies and welcome new prospective 18 members; and 19 WHEREAS, Without the help of Jose R. Quiles, Director and 20 Founder of Viva La Gente, and Damaressa Quiles, Diamariluz 21 Quiles, Jaslene Gonzalez, Lydia Sanchez, Iraida Sanchez, 22 Veronica Mercado, Jessica Gutierrez, Sandra, Heather White, 23 Iris, Saby, Dinely Ayala, Vanessa, and Sonia Padilla, the 24 success of Viva La Gente would surely not be so great; 25 therefore, be it 26 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 27 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 28 we congratulate Viva La Gente of Chicago on their success as 29 the largest cultural youth group in Chicago, and wish them 30 all the best in their future performances; and be it further 31 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 32 presented to Jose R. Quiles, Director and Founder Viva La -3- LRB9216803BHbh 1 Gente of Chicago, as an expression of our esteem.
