92_HR0881 LRB9216813RHrh 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 3 Representatives wish to recognize milestone events in the 4 lives of the citizens of the State of Illinois; and 5 WHEREAS, John W. McCarter, Jr. is President and Chief 6 Executive Officer of the Field Museum, one of the great 7 natural history museums in the world; and 8 WHEREAS, The Field Museum is an international leader in 9 environmental conservation evolutionary biology, 10 paleontology, and anthropology; its collections number over 11 21 million specimens, and the staff includes 72 Ph.Ds; the 12 Field Museum has activities in 98 countries; and 13 WHEREAS, The Field Museum's educational programs and 14 exhibits attracted more than 4 million visitors during the 15 last two years including 700,000 students, and its distance 16 learning program over the Internet and public television 17 stations has reached 12 million students; its close ties with 18 the University of Chicago and the University of Illinois are 19 models for institutional alliances; and 20 WHEREAS, A native Chicagoan, John W. McCarter, Jr., 21 previously was Senior Vice President of Booz Allen & 22 Hamilton, Inc.; earlier in his career, he served as President 23 of DeKalb Corporation and was Budget Director of the State of 24 Illinois under Governor Richard B. Ogilvie; in addition, he 25 was a White House Fellow during the administration of Lyndon 26 B. Johnson; and 27 WHEREAS, Mr. McCarter is a Director of W.W. Grainger, 28 A.M. Castle, and Harris Insight Funds and Divergence L.L.C.; 29 he is a board member and former Chairman of Chicago's Public 30 Television Station Channel 11, a trustee of the University of 31 Chicago, and a director of the Chicago Public Education Fund; -2- LRB9216813RHrh 1 and 2 WHEREAS, Mr. McCarter is a graduate of Princeton 3 University and Harvard Business School, and also attended the 4 London School of Economics; and 5 WHEREAS, John McCarter, Jr. and his wife, Judy, live in 6 Northfield and have three children and one grandchild; and 7 WHEREAS, On May 23, 2002, John W. McCarter, Jr. will be 8 presented the Field Museum's Civic Leadership Award in 9 recognition of his dedication and contribution as President 10 and Chief Executive Officer of the Field Museum; therefore be 11 it 12 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 13 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 14 we congratulate John W. McCarter on receiving the Civic 15 Leadership Award presented by the Field Museum of Chicago; 16 and be it further 17 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 18 presented to John W. McCarter as an expression of our esteem.
