92_HR0947 LRB9216755BHbh 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, Illinois has 442,000 small businesses, which is 3 a decrease of 183,000 from two years ago; and 4 WHEREAS, Illinois has received the 2001 Site Selection 5 Governor's Cup for business development, ranks 1st in the 6 world's 1000 largest manufacturing companies, according to 7 Industry Week Magazine, and ranks 4th among states in the 8 2000 Inc. Magazine Fastest-Growing Private Companies survey; 9 and 10 WHEREAS, The General Assembly has created programs for 11 the Department of Commerce and Community Affairs that have 12 directly resulted in the creation of more than 32,000 new 13 jobs, the retention of 30,000 jobs, and have contributed an 14 additional $5 billion into the Illinois economy; and 15 WHEREAS, The Department of Commerce and Community Affairs 16 aggressively pursues new large businesses and works to keep 17 existing large companies in Illinois through programs such as 18 the EDGE tax credit and the Industrial Training Program; and 19 WHEREAS, The Illinois economy depends on the success of 20 small businesses across the State; therefore, be it 21 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 22 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 23 we urge the Department of Commerce and Community Affairs to 24 focus more of their resources to help the loyal small 25 businesses that wish to expand their operations; and be it 26 further 27 RESOLVED, That we encourage the Department of Commerce 28 and Community Affairs to develop new and innovative programs 29 to foster the growth and success of existing small businesses 30 in Illinois; and be it further -2- LRB9216755BHbh 1 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 2 presented to the Governor and the Director of Commerce and 3 Community Affairs.
