92_HR0978 LRB9217013BHdvA 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 3 Representatives are proud to congratulate Patricia Anne Polos 4 of Chicago for her dedicated commitment and volunteer service 5 to AARP; and 6 WHEREAS, Patricia Polos was born November 28, 1921 in 7 Indianapolis to Florence and Walter Fletcher; she married 8 Harry Fred Polos on February 20, 1950; and she has two 9 children, Michael and Richard, and five grandchildren, 10 Jessica, Mathew, Theodore, Zachary, and Bradley, with another 11 on the way; and 12 WHEREAS, Ms. Polos earned a Bachelor's Degree in Social 13 Sciences from Mundelein College and took advanced work in 14 Urban Studies at Roosevelt University; and 15 WHEREAS, She was a Legislative Assistant to State Senator 16 Esther Saperstein from 1968 to 1972; she was engaged in 17 campaign management and lobbying from 1972 to 1980; she was 18 an Administrative Assistant to State Senator Howard Carroll 19 from 1980 to 1986; and she was a communications consultant 20 specializing in political and legislative campaigns from 1986 21 until her retirement; and 22 WHEREAS, She has been a State Legislative Committee 23 Member for AARP since 1992, a coordinator of Chicago Area 24 Legislative Activities for AARP since 1994, and a member of 25 AARP's Volunteer Lobby Team since 1995; she earned AARP's 26 Partnership for Excellence Award for her work on Assisted 27 Living Licensure in 1999, and in 2001 she earned AARP's 28 Bright Star for Seniors Award for her years of service and 29 outstanding commitment to Illinois seniors; and 30 WHEREAS, She continues to be the leading advocate in 31 Springfield for Illinois ratification of the ERA; she is an -2- LRB9217013BHdvA 1 advocate for the development of assisted living facilities in 2 Illinois as well as appropriate regulation and oversight; and 3 she is a passionate lobbyist in Springfield on behalf of 4 senior issues and women's rights; and 5 WHEREAS, She served on the Community Mental Health Board 6 of Chicago for over 30 years, holding the position of Vice 7 Chair; she was formerly the Legislative Chair for the 8 Illinois Older Women's League (OWL) and President of the Loop 9 Chapter of OWL; and she was formerly President of ERA 10 Illinois; and 11 WHEREAS, Pat has come to our experience here in 12 Springfield with a genuine concern and tremendous energy on 13 behalf of retired persons; and 14 WHEREAS, Pat, in her demure and quiet fashion, has 15 influenced immeasurably legislation affecting women and 16 seniors of our State; and 17 WHEREAS, Pat will forever enjoy a fond place in the 18 hearts and minds of all Illinois legislators who know her; we 19 pray for her continued good health and swift return to us 20 here in her State Capitol; therefore, be it 21 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 22 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 23 we congratulate Patricia Anne Polos for her exemplary service 24 to AARP and for her work on state policy issues over the 25 years; and be it further 26 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 27 presented to Patricia Anne Polos as an expression of our 28 respect and esteem.
