92_HR0986 LRB9216993BHbh 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 3 Representatives are proud to recognize milestone events in 4 the lives of the citizens of this State; and 5 WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Dr. John A. 6 Neuhaus of Riverside is retiring as President of Morton 7 College in June 2002; and 8 WHEREAS, Dr. Neuhaus has spent 21 years at Morton 9 College, starting in August 1981, and has woven a warm 10 welcome mat to the Morton College Campus for the betterment 11 and enrichment of its students, community, and employees 12 through participation, partnerships, and the hosting of 13 programs and events that foster life-learning experiences, 14 problem-solving opportunities, and challenges; and 15 WHEREAS, Dr. Neuhaus has successfully implemented a 16 formal and on-going Strategic Plan process involving all 17 entities of the College as well as community leaders; he 18 helped Morton College obtain the status of Hispanic-Serving 19 Institution; his accomplishments include a Title V grant 20 awarded July 2001 by the U.S. Department of Education; and 21 WHEREAS, Dr. Neuhaus has on-going articulation with 22 District 527 community educators to address and explore 23 educational issues from pre-kindergarten through higher 24 education; and 25 WHEREAS, Dr. Neuhaus has taken an active leadership in 26 the Cicero Chamber of Commerce and Industry and served on the 27 Executive Board since 1985; he is a participant in the 28 Adopt-a-Homeroom program, speaking to grade school children 29 about educational and career options at their schools; he has 30 promoted and supported the bringing together of local 8th 31 grade students, business leaders, and various Morton College -2- LRB9216993BHbh 1 faculty and staff to tour the campus and discuss career 2 options and choices through the Career Day Program; and 3 WHEREAS, Dr. Neuhaus is Chairman of the Student 4 Development Committee of the Illinois Council of Public 5 Community College Presidents, has served on the Executive 6 Board of the West Suburban Post-Secondary Consortium, and 7 serves as a member of the Riverside Library Board; and 8 WHEREAS, Dr. Neuhaus's retirement will allow him to spend 9 more time with his two daughters, Emily and Celeste, and to 10 engage in his hobbies, woodworking and gardening; therefore, 11 be it 12 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 13 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 14 we congratulate Dr. John A. Neuhaus on his retirement as 15 President of Morton College, which he will celebrate at a 16 Farewell Dinner on May 29, 2002; and be it further 17 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 18 presented to Dr. John A. Neuhaus with our best wishes for the 19 future.
