92_HR1056 LRB9217156RHrhA 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 3 Representatives are honored to recognize milestone 4 celebrations in the history of towns in the State of 5 Illinois; and 6 WHEREAS, Nestled within the beautiful surroundings of 7 Northern Illinois, Spring Grove was originally established in 8 1847 under the name of Blivin Mills; in 1883 the name was 9 changed to Spring Grove because of its many springs and 10 groves of trees; on October 6, 1902, the Village of Spring 11 Grove was incorporated; and 12 WHEREAS, Spring Grove was primarily established as an 13 agricultural community; the first silo constructed in North 14 America was built in the 1800's on a small farm located in 15 the Spring Grove area; a memorial marker stands today at Lyle 16 Thomas Park to pay tribute to this historical site; and 17 WHEREAS, Years of careful planning have rewarded the 18 Village of Spring Grove with an increase in both commercial 19 and light industrial development; with this, increased 20 residential developments have provided the Village with a 21 diverse selection of housing; Spring Grove's current 22 population is 3,880; and 23 WHEREAS, Spring Grove is an ambitious community with a 24 clear vision of the future; the hard working heritage of 25 Spring Grove continues to be a benchmark for enhanced 26 development throughout the community; and 27 WHEREAS, The Village of Spring Grove will be celebrating 28 one hundred years of incorporation on October 6, 2002; and 29 WHEREAS, The Village of Spring Grove will publish a 30 commemorative history book that will document in words and 31 pictures the history of Spring Grove's churches, schools, -2- LRB9217156RHrhA 1 organizations, farming community, old and current businesses, 2 resident memories and more; and 3 WHEREAS, The Village of Spring Grove is also building a 4 brick walkway to the gazebo in Horse Fair Park commemorating 5 past and current residents and businesses; the walkway will 6 be dedicated as part of the Centennial celebration on October 7 6, 2002; therefore, be it 8 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 9 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 10 we congratulate the Village of Spring Grove on the 11 celebration of its centennial anniversary; and be it further 12 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 13 presented to Robert Martens, the Village President of Spring 14 Grove, Illinois.
