92_HR1076 LRB9217831RHrh 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 3 Representatives wish to honor milestone accomplishments in 4 the lives of the citizens of the State of Illinois; and 5 WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that on September 6 6, 2002, Linda Marie White of Chicago is being honored as 7 Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated's new National 8 President; and 9 WHEREAS, Ms. White is the first Chicagoan to lead Alpha 10 Kappa Alpha Sorority since Maudelle Bousfield was elected in 11 1930; and 12 WHEREAS, Linda Marie White was born in Cleveland, Ohio 13 and raised in Chicago, Illinois; she attended Chicago Public 14 Schools, graduated magna cum laude from Clark College with a 15 degree in Political Science, received her master's degree in 16 Political Science from the University of Chicago, and 17 received a certificate in Systems Analysis from Stanford 18 University; and 19 WHEREAS, Ms. White is a former Area Director of the 20 Social Security Administration for Northern Ohio, where she 21 managed 29 offices and oversaw a program and operating budget 22 of 9 billion dollars; and 23 WHEREAS, Ms. White has received many awards from the 24 Social Security Administration, her church, and the community 25 for her distinguished service; and 26 WHEREAS, Ms. White has been a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha 27 Sorority for over 40 years and has served on the local level 28 as President of the Theta Omega Chapter in Chicago and on the 29 national level as the First Vice-President, the International 30 Secretary, the International Protocol Liaison, and a member 31 of many committees; and -2- LRB9217831RHrh 1 WHEREAS, Ms. White is an active member of St. Mark United 2 Methodist Church, Beatrice Caffey Youth Services, Lake Shore 3 Links, the Society, and the Chicago Region Management 4 Association; and 5 WHEREAS, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority is a sisterhood 6 composed of women who have consciously chosen this 7 affiliation as a means of self-fulfillment through volunteer 8 services; Alpha Kappa Alpha cultivates and encourages high 9 scholastic and ethical standards, promotes unity and 10 friendship among college women, alleviates problems 11 concerning girls and women, maintains a progressive interest 12 in college life, and serves all mankind through a nucleus of 13 more than 170,000 women in the United States, the Caribbean, 14 Europe, and Africa; therefore, be it 15 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 16 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 17 we congratulate Linda Marie White of Chicago on her 18 appointment as the new National President of Alpha Kappa 19 Alpha Sorority and we wish her well in her new endeavor; and 20 be it further 21 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 22 presented to Linda Marie White as an expression of our 23 esteem.
