92_HR1096 LRB9218094HShs 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, Members of the Illinois House of Representatives 3 are pleased to recognize the contributions and achievements 4 of educators of the State of Illinois; and 5 WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Dr. Laura F. 6 Williams officially retired from the Chicago Public Schools 7 on June 28, 2002 after 38 years of service; and 8 WHEREAS, Dr. Williams began her teaching career at John 9 Harvard Elementary School, located on the south side of 10 Chicago; she served as a 4th grade teacher, a physical 11 education teacher, a science teacher, and an 8th grade 12 teacher; she became the principal of John Harvard Elementary 13 School in 1990; she served as a teacher for 26 years and a 14 principal for 12; and 15 WHEREAS, Dr. Williams earned her bachelors degree in 16 education from Chicago State University in 1964; she received 17 her masters degree in administrative supervision from 18 Roosevelt University in 1975; believing that education is a 19 lifelong process, she returned to Roosevelt University to 20 receive her doctoral degree in 1997; and 21 WHEREAS, Dr. Williams has received numerous awards and 22 recognitions; she has been the recipient of the Outstanding 23 Principal Award, Who's Who Among Top Educators, the 24 Administrator of Excellence Award, Certification of 25 Appreciation presented by the Local School Council; during 26 her doctoral studies, Dr. Williams contributed to the April 27 1996 Catalyst Publication featuring "Mobility", which was 28 also the study of her thesis; and 29 WHEREAS, Dr. Williams is the mother of Paulette Dilworth 30 and the late Mark C. Williams, and the wife of the late Mr. 31 Hayward Williams; of all her accomplishments, Dr. Williams' -2- LRB9218094HShs 1 greatest joys have come from being a wife, mother and a 2 grandmother; therefore, be it 3 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 4 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 5 we commend Dr. Laura F. Williams on her achievements and 6 devotion to excellence as an educator and administrator, and 7 congratulate her upon her retirement on June 28, 2002; and be 8 it further 9 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 10 presented to Dr. Laura F. Williams.
