92_HR1134 LRB9218347HShs 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, Members of the House of Representatives of the 3 State of Illinois recently learned with sadness of the death 4 of Edna Leach Byrd on Wednesday, September 25, 2002; and 5 WHEREAS, Mrs. Byrd was born on November 17, 1928 in 6 Portsmouth, Virginia to Simon and Mable Leach; she was the 7 youngest of seven brothers and sisters, all of whom preceded 8 her in death; she accepted Christ while attending Emmanuel 9 A.M.E. Church in Portsmouth, Virginia; and 10 WHEREAS, Mrs. Byrd graduated from I.C. Norcom High School 11 in 1945; she attended Shaw University in Raleigh, North 12 Carolina and Maryland State; and 13 WHEREAS, In 1951, she married Myrten E. Byrd, Sr.; they 14 were married 51 years and were blessed with five children, 15 Vanessa, Myrten, Marvin, Marion, and Maurice; and 16 WHEREAS, Mrs. Byrd devoted her entire life to her husband 17 and children; she enjoyed being Myrten's best friend, partner 18 and soul mate; she took special pride and delight in her 19 children and their accomplishments; each of her grandchildren 20 held a unique place in her heart; and 21 WHEREAS, Mrs. Byrd enjoyed her affiliation and travels 22 with the Daybreakers' Social Club; she will be remembered for 23 her love of Western movies; and 24 WHEREAS, The loss of Edna Byrd will be deeply felt by all 25 who knew and loved her especially her husband, Myrten E. 26 Byrd, Sr,; her children, Vanessa (Jerome), Myrten (Toni), 27 Marvin (Renee), Marion (Algie), and Maurice (Deidra); her 28 in-laws, Rosalyn Ellis, Napoleon Byrd, Rudolph Brown, Sr. 29 (Ann), and Barbara Leach; her grandchildren, Jermaine 30 (LaShonya), JeVaughan, Tiffani, Jemell, Jemyra, Marques, 31 Myrten III, Brandon, Ashley, Sherrita, Marvin, Christopher, -2- LRB9218347HShs 1 and Jada; her great-grandchildren, Terrell, Empress, Jermaine 2 Jr., JeVaughan, Tylin, Tya, and Camryn; and a host of nieces, 3 nephews, and friends; therefore, be it 4 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 5 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 6 we mourn the passing of Edna Leach Byrd and offer our sincere 7 condolences to her family and friends; and be it further 8 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 9 presented to the family of Edna Leach Byrd.
