92_HR1145 LRB9218352HShsC 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of 3 the State of Illinois wish to congratulate Representative 4 William A. O'Connor on his exemplary service to the citizens 5 of the 43rd District; and 6 WHEREAS, During his tenure in the House which began 7 August 15, 1998, Representative O'Connor has been known as a 8 crime fighter; he is known for his work for Latino outreach, 9 railroad crossing safety, and early childhood development; 10 and 11 WHEREAS, He has received many awards, including the 12 Legislative Advocacy Award from the Illinois Council Against 13 Handgun Violence; the Youth Outreach Services Award in 14 appreciation of his outstanding support and assistance to 15 youth and families of the 43rd District; the Chicago Teachers 16 Union Lead 2000 Award in appreciation of his commitment to 17 the educators and support personnel who are charged with 18 educating the students of Chicago's public schools; and the 19 Chicago Teachers Union Certificate of Honor for his 20 commitment to quality education; and 21 WHEREAS, He received the Riverside Little League 22 Appreciation Award; the J. Sterling Morton High School 23 District 201 Certificate of Appreciation Award in recognition 24 of his valuable contributions to the passage of House Bill 25 1134 in 1999, which made the school funding formula more 26 fair; and the L. J. Hauser Jr. High School Pride Sponsor; and 27 WHEREAS, He received the Illinois Education 28 Association-Illinois Political Action Committee on Education 29 Friend of Education Award in recognition of his continued 30 commitment to public education and the children of Illinois; 31 the Community Support Services, Inc. Partnership Award for 32 his outstanding support of children and adults with -2- LRB9218352HShsC 1 developmental disabilities and their families; and the 2 Illinois State's Attorneys Association Outstanding Legislator 3 Award in recognition and appreciation of his distinguished 4 service to the People of the State of Illinois through his 5 leadership, dedication and creative efforts in the Illinois 6 General Assembly in support of the criminal justice system; 7 and 8 WHEREAS, He received the Latinos of Berwyn and Cicero 9 Organization Citizen Award for his outstanding performance 10 and dedication to the 43rd District and all the people in the 11 State of Illinois and for his support and concern for the 12 Latino community; the Illinois Park and Recreation 13 Association and the Illinois Association of Park Districts 14 with the Berwyn Park District Community Service Award; and 15 the American Legion, Department of Illinois Certificate of 16 Appreciation Award for his support of the Veterans and 17 Veterans Affairs in the State of Illinois; and 18 WHEREAS, He was the recipient of the Riverside Township 19 Chamber of Commerce, Riverside Township Lions Club Man of the 20 Year 2000 award; the Irving School PTA Award of Appreciation 21 for his efforts to secure funds for Irving School to make it 22 a safer school for its students and teachers; the Illinois 23 Agriculture Association Activator Friend of Agricultural 24 Award; and the Association of Community Mental Health 25 Authorities of Illinois Acknowledgement For Outstanding 26 Support And Advocacy On Behalf Of Local Mental Health 27 Authorities; and 28 WHEREAS, He has served on several committees, including 29 State Government Administration (Spokesman), Computer 30 Technology, Conservation and Land Use (Vice-Spokesman), 31 Financial Institutions, Transportation and Motor Vehicles, 32 Appropriations-Elementary and Secondary Education, Urban 33 Revitalization, and Tobacco Settlement Proceeds Distribution; -3- LRB9218352HShsC 1 and 2 WHEREAS, Representative O'Connor has been supported 3 throughout his public and private life by his wife, Jane 4 McCahill, and his three children, Will, Kathleen, and Emily; 5 and 6 WHEREAS, The House will miss having the benefit of 7 William A. O'Connor's legal expertise and his vast experience 8 in public service; therefore, be it 9 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 10 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 11 we congratulate Representative William A. O'Connor on a job 12 well done for the citizens of the 43rd District and the 13 entire State of Illinois and we wish him success and 14 happiness in his future endeavors; and be it further 15 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 16 presented to Representative William A. O'Connor as an 17 expression of our respect and esteem.
