92_HR1164 LRB9218425KFkf 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 3 Representatives would like to congratulate Karl L. 4 Bartelsmeyer of Carbondale, upon his retirement from the 5 Illinois Department of Transportation on December 31, 2002 6 after 38 years of dedicated service to the people of 7 Illinois; and 8 WHEREAS, Mr. Bartelsmeyer was born on November 9, 1941; 9 he received his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from 10 the University of Kansas in 1965; and 11 WHEREAS, He began his professional career with the 12 Illinois Department of Transportation in 1965 as Civil 13 Engineer I, progressed to the position of Civil Engineer 14 VIII, and served as Bureau Chief of the Central Bureau of 15 Land Acquisition; in 1992, he was appointed District Engineer 16 in District 9; and 17 WHEREAS, He is a Professional Engineer and a Registered 18 Land Surveyor; he is past President of the Egyptian Chapter 19 of the Illinois Society of Professional Engineers and past 20 President of the Carbondale Chapter of the Illinois 21 Association of Highway Engineers; and 22 WHEREAS, He is involved in his community and has served 23 as an elected member of the Board of Education for Carbondale 24 Elementary Schools for over 4 years; his special assignments 25 included teacher contract negotiations, the long-range 26 planning committee and the real property committee; and 27 WHEREAS, He served First United Methodist Church as 28 chairman of the Planning and Building Committees during 29 renovation of a 60-year-old building; he has also served as 30 chairman of the Board of Trustees and has also served on the 31 Finance Committee, Pastor-Parish Committee, Organ Renovation -2- LRB9218425KFkf 1 Committee and the Administration Board; and 2 WHEREAS, In the Boy Scouts of America he has served as 3 Cubmaster, Assistant Scoutmaster, Treasurer, Committee 4 Chairman, Advancements Chairman and Webelos Den Leader; he 5 has served on the Carbondale Highway Credit Union Board of 6 Directors, including nine years as Chairman of the 7 Supervisory Committee and two years as Board Chairman; and 8 WHEREAS, His retirement will allow him to pursue his 9 hobbies of camping and woodworking and spend more time with 10 his wife, Sandy; his children, David, Michael, Robert, Sean, 11 Brian, and Matt; and his grandchildren Craig, Brianna, 12 Nicholas, and Cameron; therefore be it 13 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 14 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 15 we congratulate Karl L. Bartelsmeyer on his exemplary service 16 to his profession, his community, and the State of Illinois 17 and we wish him health and happiness in all of his future 18 endeavors; and be it further 19 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 20 presented to Karl L. Bartelsmeyer as an expression of our 21 respect and esteem.
