92_HR1173 LRB9218436KFkf 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, Carolyn Talley's knowledge and expertise in 3 technology and computer-related functions were the criteria 4 for promoting her to the position of Brighton North 5 Elementary School's first Computer Lab Assistant; and 6 WHEREAS, Carolyn Talley was the driving force in 7 initiating a keyboarding program for children in grades 4-6; 8 and 9 WHEREAS, She has been recognized by her Principal, Bill 10 Bishop, as being one of the most influential and progressive 11 aides with whom he has ever worked, and a truly inspirational 12 leader; and 13 WHEREAS, She has been recognized by her Principal as 14 having unflinchingly initiated an Accelerated Reader Program 15 that provides students the opportunity to read for fun and 16 pleasure and established a system of rewards for students' 17 reading; and 18 WHEREAS, She initiated the publishing of a monthly 19 newspaper by Brighton North Elementary School sixth grade 20 students which is distributed to all school parents and 21 students as well as other schools in the district; and 22 WHEREAS, She is responsible for implementing a spring 23 field trip with her newspaper staff to tour the Alton 24 Telegraph, and to visit the Elijah P. Lovejoy Monument and 25 the Alton Museum of Art and History; and 26 WHEREAS, She has been recognized by her school 27 superintendent, Dr. Daniel J. Clasby, as a person who cares 28 about children and who goes beyond her normal duties in 29 attempting to provide positive learning experiences for 30 students and staff; and -2- LRB9218436KFkf 1 WHEREAS, She promoted Family Reading Night as part of 2 American Education Week; and 3 WHEREAS, She has served on her school's site-based 4 committee for five years; and 5 WHEREAS, She was instrumental in the founding of the 6 organizing committee that led to the successful formation of 7 the Southwestern ESP Association; she was elected to serve as 8 the first Association President; and 9 WHEREAS, She has been appointed to every Association 10 bargaining team, she has served as chief negotiator and 11 committee member, and she also has served as a trainer at 12 regional and state IEA and IEA-ESP Conferences; and 13 WHEREAS, She coordinates an annual local association 14 community program that solicits toys from local union members 15 for distribution to underprivileged children in her 16 community; and 17 WHEREAS, She was recognized as the 2002 Illinois 18 Education Association Educational Support Professional of the 19 Year; and 20 WHEREAS, She was recognized by Representative Jim Watson 21 for her many achievements; therefore, be it 22 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 23 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 24 we thank Carolyn Talley for all her hard work and dedication 25 in promoting public education and we congratulate her for 26 being honored as the Illinois Education Association 27 Educational Support Professional of the Year; and be it 28 further 29 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 30 presented to Carolyn Talley as expression of our respect and -3- LRB9218436KFkf 1 esteem.
