Amend Senate Bill 188, AS AMENDED, 3 by replacing everything after the enacting clause with the 4 following: 5 "Section 5. The Election Code is amended by changing 6 Section 11-4.1 as follows: 7 (10 ILCS 5/11-4.1) (from Ch. 46, par. 11-4.1) 8 Sec. 11-4.1. (a) In appointing polling places under this 9 Article, the county board or board of election commissioners 10 shall, insofar as they are convenient and available, use 11 schools and other public buildings as polling places. 12 (b) Upon request of the county board or board of 13 election commissioners, the proper agency of government 14 (including school districts and units of local government) 15 shall make a public building under its control available for 16 use as a polling place on an election day and for a 17 reasonably necessary time before and after election day, 18 without charge, unless such use is impossible. If the county 19 board or board of election commissioners chooses a school to 20 be a polling place, then the school district must make the 21 school available for use as a polling place. However, for 22 the day of the election, a school district may choose to (i) -2- LRB9203851NTsbam03 1 keep the school open or (ii) hold a teachers institute on 2 that day. 3 (c) A government agency which makes a public building 4 under its control available for use as a polling place shall 5 ensure the portion of the building to be used as the polling 6 place is accessible to handicapped and elderly voters. 7 (Source: P.A. 84-1467.) 8 Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon 9 becoming law.".
