92_SB0264eng SB264 Engrossed LRB9205715NTsb 1 AN ACT with regard to education. 2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, 3 represented in the General Assembly: 4 Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Section 5 22-27 as follows: 6 (105 ILCS 5/22-27 new) 7 Sec. 22-27. World War II and Korean Conflict veterans; 8 diplomas. 9 (a) Upon request, the school board of any district that 10 maintains grades 10 through 12 may award a diploma, to be 11 given during the regular high school graduation ceremony, to 12 any honorably discharged veteran who: 13 (1) served in the armed forces of the United States 14 during World War II or the Korean Conflict; 15 (2) resided within an area currently within the 16 district; 17 (3) left high school before graduating in order to 18 serve in the armed forces of the United States; and 19 (4) has not received a high school diploma. 20 (b) The State Board of Education and the Department of 21 Veterans' Affairs may issue rules consistent with the 22 provisions of this Section that are necessary to implement 23 this Section.
