 1        AN ACT in relation to hotel safety.

 2        Be it enacted by the People of  the  State  of  Illinois,
 3    represented in the General Assembly:

 4        Section  5.   The  Innkeeper Protection Act is amended by
 5    adding Section 3.3 as follows:

 6        (740 ILCS  90/3.3 new)
 7        Sec. 3.3. Criminal background  checks;  hotel  employees;
 8    fingerprint identifiable keys.
 9        (a)  On and after the effective date  of  this amendatory
10    Act   of  the  92nd General Assembly, the Department of State
11    Police  shall  require  a  prospective  hotel  employee    to
12    submit  to   a   criminal  background    check  before  being
13    employed.   If   an  applicant's  criminal  background  check
14    indicates  a  criminal   conviction,   the  applicant    must
15    further  submit  to  a  fingerprint-based criminal background
16    check.   The  Department  shall adopt rules to implement this
17    Section.
18        (b)  Within one year after the  effective  date  of  this
19    amendatory  Act  of  the 92nd General Assembly, each hotel in
20    existence in this State on the effective date  shall  replace
21    or  install   a  lock  on  each hotel room with a fingerprint
22    identifiable electronic key.  Each hotel  constructed  on  or
23    after  the  effective date shall install a lock on each hotel
24    room with a fingerprint identifiable electronic key.
