1 AN ACT concerning public health.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The Department of Public Health Act is
5 amended by adding Section 8.5 as follows:
6 (20 ILCS 2305/8.5 new)
7 Sec. 8.5. Public health data analysis. The Department of
8 Public Health must, through the Department or other State
9 agencies or by a contract with a private entity, analyze data
10 that is (i) routinely collected by the State, on its on
11 behalf or as part of a national process, and (ii) concerns
12 matters related to public health, including, but not limited
13 to, data relating to deaths, injuries, crimes, health
14 conditions and parameters such as lead poisoning and growth,
15 periodic surveys, and health and social services. The
16 Department must annually report its findings, in clear and
17 understandable lay language, to the General Assembly, State
18 agencies with an interest in the data, county and local
19 health departments, and the general public. The annual
20 report must include recommendations to the General Assembly
21 and the Governor concerning policy changes or initiative that
22 would improve the health of the population, or identifiable
23 subpopulations, of Illinois.
