 1        AN ACT respecting schools.

 2        Be  it  enacted  by  the People of the State of Illinois,
 3    represented in the General Assembly:

 4        Section 5.   The  School  Code  is  amended  by  changing
 5    Section 14-1.09.1 as follows:

 6        (105 ILCS 5/14-1.09.1)
 7        Sec.  14-1.09.1.  School  psychological services.  In the
 8    public schools, school  psychological  services  provided  by
 9    qualified   specialists  who  hold  Type  73  School  Service
10    Personnel Certificates endorsed for school psychology  issued
11    by the State Teacher Certification Board may include, but are
12    not  limited  to:  (i)  administration  and interpretation of
13    psychological and educational  evaluations;  (ii)  developing
14    school-based    prevention   programs,   including   violence
15    prevention programs; (iii) counseling with students, parents,
16    and teachers on educational and mental  health  issues;  (iv)
17    acting  as  liaisons  between  public  schools  and community
18    agencies;  (v)   evaluating   program   effectiveness;   (vi)
19    providing  crisis  intervention  within  the  school setting;
20    (vii) helping teachers, parents, and others involved  in  the
21    educational  process to provide optimum teaching and learning
22    conditions  for  all  students;  (viii)  supervising   school
23    psychologist  interns  enrolled in school psychology programs
24    that meet the standards established by  the  State  Board  of
25    Education;  and  (ix)  screening  of  school  enrollments  to
26    identify  children  who  should  be  referred  for individual
27    study.  Nothing in this  Section  prohibits  other  qualified
28    professionals,  including  licensed  clinical  psychologists,
29    from  providing  those  services  listed  for  which they are
30    appropriately trained.

 1        Section 99.  Effective date.  This Act takes effect  upon
 2    becoming law.
