1 AMENDMENT TO SENATE BILL 697
2 AMENDMENT NO. . Amend Senate Bill 697 on page 1,
3 line 8, by replacing "and" with "or"; and
4 page 1, line 15, by replacing "and" with "or"; and
5 Page 2 by replacing lines 8 through 25 with the following:
6 "purposes?"
7 For the purposes of the paragraph, "public safety
8 purposes" means crime prevention, detention, fire
9 fighting, police, medical, ambulance, or other emergency
10 services.
11 Votes shall be recorded as "Yes" or " No"."
12 (2) The proposition for transportation purposes
13 shall be in substantially the following form:
14 "Shall (name of county) be authorized to impose a
15 tax at the rate of (insert rate) upon all persons engaged
16 in the business of selling tangible personal property at
17 retail in the county on gross receipts from the sales
18 made in the course of their business to be used for
19 transportation purposes?
20 For the purposes of this paragraph, transportation
21 purposes means construction, maintenance, operation, and
22 improvements of public highways.
23 The votes shall be recorded as "Yes" or "No"."

2 on page 6, line 4, by replacing "and" with "or"; and
3 on page 6, line 14, by replacing "and" with "or"; and
4 on page 8, line 26, by replacing "and" with "or"; and
5 on page 8, line 34, after "the" by inserting "Illinois".
