92_SB0787enr SB787 Enrolled LRB9206134REdv 1 AN ACT concerning disaster volunteers. 2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, 3 represented in the General Assembly: 4 Section 1. Short title. This Act may be cited as the 5 Local Government Disaster Service Volunteer Act. 6 Section 5. Application and Adoption by Ordinance. This 7 Act applies to all counties, municipalities, townships, and 8 home rule units that, by ordinance, adopt the provisions of 9 this Act. 10 Section 10. Definitions. As used in this Act: 11 "Local agency" includes all departments, officers, 12 commissions, boards, institutions, and bodies politic and 13 corporate of local governments as defined in the Counties 14 Code, Township Code, and Illinois Municipal Code. 15 "Disaster" includes disasters designated at Level III and 16 above in the American National Red Cross Regulations and 17 Procedures. 18 Section 15. Local Government Disaster Service Volunteer 19 Leave. An employee of a local agency who is a certified 20 disaster service volunteer of the American Red Cross may be 21 granted leave from his or her work with pay for not more than 22 20 working days in any 12-month period to participate in 23 specialized disaster relief services for the American Red 24 Cross, upon the request of the American Red Cross for the 25 services of that employee and upon the approval of that 26 employee's agency, without loss of seniority, pay, vacation 27 time, compensatory time, personal days, sick time, or earned 28 overtime accumulation. The agency must compensate an employee 29 granted leave under this Section at his or her regular rate SB787 Enrolled -2- LRB9206134REdv 1 of pay for those regular work hours during which the employee 2 is absent from work. Leave under this Act may be granted only 3 for services related to a disaster occurring within the State 4 of Illinois. 5 Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon 6 becoming law.
