92_SB2130 LRB9216105JMmb 1 AN ACT creating the office of the Curator of the 2 Executive Mansion. 3 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, 4 represented in the General Assembly: 5 Section 1. Short title. This Act may be cited as the 6 Curator of the Executive Mansion Act. 7 Section 5. Office of Curator created. 8 (a) The office of Curator of the Executive Mansion is 9 created, to be filled by appointment of the Governor with the 10 advice and consent of the Senate. The person appointed 11 Curator must have experience in historic preservation or as a 12 curator. 13 (b) The Curator shall serve a term of 5 years. A vacancy 14 in the office of Curator shall be filled, in the same manner 15 as the original appointment, for the remainder of the term. A 16 person appointed Curator when the Senate is not in session 17 shall serve as temporary Curator until his or her appointment 18 is acted upon by the Senate. A person may serve as Curator 19 more than once. 20 (c) The Governor shall determine the compensation of the 21 Curator. The Curator may employ such staff as necessary to 22 perform the functions and duties of the office. 23 Section 10. Duties of the Curator. 24 (a) The Curator shall manage and control the 25 preservation, conservation, inventory, and analysis of fine 26 and decorative arts, furnishings, and artifacts of the 27 Illinois Executive Mansion in Springfield, the Governor's 28 offices in the Capitol in Springfield and the James R. 29 Thompson Center in Chicago, and the Hayes House in DuQuoin. 30 (b) The Curator shall manage the preservation and -2- LRB9216105JMmb 1 conservation of the buildings and grounds of the Illinois 2 Executive Mansion in Springfield. 3 Section 15. Powers of the Curator. 4 (a) The Curator may enter into contracts necessary for 5 the performance of his or her duties. 6 (b) The Curator, from funds appropriated for such 7 purpose, may acquire items and artifacts appropriate to the 8 historic context of the Illinois Executive Mansion in 9 Springfield, the Hayes House in DuQuoin, and the Governor's 10 offices in the Capitol in Springfield and the James R. 11 Thompson Center in Chicago. 12 (c) The Curator may exercise other powers necessary for 13 the performance of his or her duties. 14 Section 20. Cooperation with State agencies. The Curator 15 shall cooperate with, and receive the cooperation of, any 16 State agency in the performance of his or her duties. This 17 Act does not affect the jurisdiction of any State agency over 18 the Illinois Executive Mansion in Springfield, the Hayes 19 House in DuQuoin, or the Governor's offices in the Capitol in 20 Springfield and the James R. Thompson Center in Chicago. 21 Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon 22 becoming law.
