92_SR0026 LRB9207718RHrh 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to 3 express their sincere condolences to the family and friends 4 of Carl Koerner, Jr., who passed away on January 20, 2001; 5 and 6 WHEREAS, Mr. Koerner was born on December 10, 1926 in 7 East St. Louis, Illinois to Carl P. and Ann Koerner; he 8 served as a military policeman in the United States Army 9 during World War II; and he married Carolyn A. Roberts in 10 1949; and 11 WHEREAS, Mr. Koerner was the chairman and founder of 12 Koerner Distributor Inc. of Effingham, Carterville, Centralia 13 and New Baden; he was also the owner and director of K & M 14 Floral Shoppe Inc. and Effingham Marina Inc.; and 15 WHEREAS, For almost 40 years, Carl P. Koerner, Jr, 16 dedicated himself to improving the quality of life in the 17 Effingham area through his participation in civic 18 organizations including, being a member of the St. Anthony's 19 Memorial Hospital Board of Directors and chairperson of the 20 St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital Foundation, the Effingham 21 Knights of Columbus, the Greater Effingham Chamber of 22 Commerce and Industry Industrial Affairs Committee, the St. 23 Anthony's Hospital Planning Commission, the St. Anthony's 24 Memorial Hospital Advisory Council, the Effingham County 25 Youth Commission, the Eastern Illinois University Panther 26 Club in which he was a past president, the Eastern Illinois 27 University Executive Council and President's Club, the 28 Eastern Illinois University's Board of Trustees in which he 29 was chairman, the Effingham Catholic Charities Board of 30 Directors, the Effingham Kiwanis Club, the Effingham Jaycees 31 and every St. Anthony schools ad hoc committee; and 32 WHEREAS, Mr. Koerner has received numerous awards for his -2- LRB9207718RHrh 1 community and work performance, including the Effingham Daily 2 News 2001 Citizen of the Year, the Rotary Club Vocational 3 Excellence Award, and the Seagram Tribute to Achievement 4 Award; and 5 WHEREAS, Mr. Koerner was considered a liaison between the 6 City of Effingham and Springfield; his friendships and 7 connections with State leadership often helped open up 8 discussions for projects like the Raney Street overpass and 9 extension that would benefit the Effingham area; and 10 WHEREAS, The passing of Carl P. Koerner, Jr. will be 11 deeply felt by all who knew and loved him, especially his 12 wife Carolyn, his sons, Phil (wife, Carla) and Paul (wife, 13 Kay); his daughter, Lynn Radford; his sister Rita (husband, 14 John) Baird; his nine grandchildren; and the many people in 15 the city of Effingham whose lives were touched by his 16 generosity; therefore, be it 17 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SECOND GENERAL 18 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with 19 all who knew him, the death of Carl P. Koerner, Jr. of 20 Effingham, Illinois; and be it further 21 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 22 presented to the family of Carl P. Koerner, Jr. with our 23 sincere condolences.
