92_SR0027 LRB9205949RHrh 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to 3 express their sincere condolences to the family and friends 4 of Lori Lynch, who passed away November 30, 2000; and 5 WHEREAS, Lori Lynch was the eldest of five children of 6 Irish immigrant parents, Patrick and Catherine O'Reilly, who 7 grew up on the South Side of Chicago; she married the late 8 William T. Lynch, Sr. and together they raised their five 9 children in Prospect Heights, Illinois; and 10 WHEREAS, Lori Lynch and her husband, joined with other 11 families in Prospect Heights, raised money by selling raffle 12 tickets in neighboring parishes to build a church in the 13 community; once the church, St. Alphonsus Liguori Roman 14 Catholic Church opened in 1956, Mrs. Lynch served as the 15 first president of the Women's Club; she also returned to 16 teaching, first at St. Stephen's School in Des Plaines, then 17 at Frost Elementary School in Mount Prospect and St. 18 Alphonsus School; and 19 WHEREAS, Lori Lynch returned to school herself twenty 20 years ago and earned her degree in spiritual direction from 21 Loyola University; and 22 WHEREAS, Nearly six years ago, Mrs. Lynch formalized her 23 role with St. Alphonsus Liguori Roman Catholic Church by 24 joining the parish staff as director of the Ministry of Care 25 Program, which she and her husband helped start; this program 26 now encompasses 16 different ministries and more than 200 27 volunteers; and 28 WHEREAS, Under the leadership of Lori Lynch, the Ministry 29 of Care Program did everything from visiting the sick and 30 homebound, to offering shelter to the homeless through the 31 Public Action to Deliver Shelter program, a running food -2- LRB9205949RHrh 1 pantry that was started by Mrs. Lynch and her husband nearly 2 18 years ago; and 3 WHEREAS, The pastor of St. Alphonsus Liguori Roman 4 Catholic Church, the Reverend Robert Heinz, presented Mrs. 5 Lynch with the "heart of the parish" award at the church's 6 40th anniversary dinner dance four years ago; she is the only 7 parishioner to receive this distinction; and 8 WHEREAS, The passing of Lori Lynch will be deeply felt 9 by all who knew and loved her, especially her children, 10 William Thomas, Jr. Lynch, Mary Jo (husband, Dr. William T.) 11 Sheehy, Terry (wife, Cidney) Lynch, and Richard (wife, Mary) 12 Lynch; her 20 cherished grandchildren; her 11 great- 13 grandchildren; her brothers, Edward (wife, Eileen) O'Reilly, 14 James O'Reilly, and Jerome (wife, Marianne) O'Reilly; and her 15 sister-in-law, Gloria O'Reilly; and 16 WHEREAS, Lori Lynch will be missed by all her fellow 17 parishioners at St. Alphonsus Liguori Roman Catholic Church 18 who have followed her leadership and spiritual help for more 19 than 40 years; therefore, be it 20 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SECOND GENERAL 21 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with 22 all who knew her, the death of Lori Lynch of Prospect 23 Heights, Illinois; and be it further 24 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 25 presented to the family of Lori Lynch.
