92_SR0090 LRB9208564KBkb 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to 3 express their sincere condolences to the family and friends 4 of Orville F. Helms of Palatine, Illinois who passed away on 5 March 24, 2001; and 6 WHEREAS, Orville Helms was born in Palatine on April 17, 7 1913; he married his high school sweetheart, Bernice M. Wente 8 on June 1, 1938; and 9 WHEREAS, Orville Helms joined the Palatine Volunteer Fire 10 Department in 1937; from 1945 to 1948 he served as a Palatine 11 police officer; he was elected chief of the Volunteer Fire 12 Department in 1953, and became the first full-time fire chief 13 of Palatine in 1960; after 42 years of service, Mr. Helms 14 retired in 1979; and 15 WHEREAS, Orville Helms was a member of St. Paul United 16 Church of Christ; he was a charter member of the Palatine 17 Rotary Club and the Over the Hill Gang of Palatine; and 18 WHEREAS, The passing of Orville F. Helms will be deeply 19 felt by all who knew and loved him, especially his wife, 20 Bernice; his sons, Orrin (wife, Gloria) Helms and Allen 21 (wife, Melody) Helms; his daughter, Carol (husband, Bill) 22 Gitzke; his grandchildren, Brad (wife, Jerri) Helms, Darcy 23 (husband, Ed) De Luga, Shelly (husband, Marty) Van Anrooy, 24 and Bill Gitzke; and his six great-grandchildren; therefore, 25 be it 26 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SECOND GENERAL 27 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with 28 his family and friends, the death of Orville F. Helms; and be 29 it further 30 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 31 presented to the family of Orville F. Helms.
