92_SR0126 LRB9208801RHrh 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to 3 express their sincere condolences to the family and friends 4 of Robert D. Jones, who passed away on April, 21, 2001; and 5 WHEREAS, Robert D. Jones was a native of Indiana; he 6 graduated in business from Indiana University, where he was a 7 member of the Delta Upsilon fraternity; after college he 8 served in the United States Army and then went to work for 9 Travelers Insurance; and 10 WHEREAS, Robert D. Jones shared a lifelong interest in 11 government and politics; Donald Rumsfeld, presently the 12 secretary of defense, persuaded him become his first 13 administrative assistant during the beginning of Mr. Rumsfeld 14 career; and 15 WHEREAS, Robert D. Jones was actively involved in the 16 campaigns of Governor Richard Ogilvie and Congressman John 17 Porter, and recently he was involved in the campaign of 18 Congressman Mark Kirk; and 19 WHEREAS, After he returned to the Chicago area, Mr. Jones 20 became vice president of public affairs for Jewel Companies; 21 after twenty years at Jewel, he served as manager of civic 22 affairs at Amoco Corporation; and 23 WHEREAS, Robert D. Jones was involved with many 24 organizations, including the American Petroleum Institute, 25 the Chicago Equity Fund, Chicago United, Civic Federation, 26 the Economic Club, the National Association of Manufacturers, 27 the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and the United Way; in addition 28 he chaired the Winnetka Police and Fire Commission; and 29 WHEREAS, Most recently, Robert D. Jones served as a 30 consultant in the Midwest Public Affairs Group in Chicago, 31 working on behalf of many corporations in their dealings with -2- LRB9208801RHrh 1 governmental issues; and 2 WHEREAS, The passing of Robert D. Jones will be deeply 3 felt by all who knew and loved him, especially his wife, 4 Suzanne; his sons, Tony and Christopher; and his sister, 5 Rosalie Wolf; therefore, be it 6 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SECOND GENERAL 7 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with 8 all who knew him, the death of Robert D. Jones of Winnetka, 9 Illinois; and be it further 10 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 11 presented to the family of Robert D. Jones with our sincere 12 condolences.
