92_SR0163 LRB9209023JSpcA 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, Access to an adequate supply of electric energy 3 is of vital importance to the citizens of this State; and 4 WHEREAS, Recent events in California demonstrate the need 5 for adequate electricity transmission capacity in this State; 6 and 7 WHEREAS, The newly deregulated environment for the 8 production of electricity is resulting in additional demand 9 for transmission capacity; and 10 WHEREAS, Adequate electricity transmission capacity is 11 essential to the health, safety, and economic well-being of 12 the citizens of this State; therefore, be it 13 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SECOND GENERAL 14 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that the Illinois Commerce 15 Commission, the Department of Commerce and Community Affairs, 16 and the Department of Transportation jointly conduct a study 17 of electricity transmission capacity in this State; and be it 18 further 19 RESOLVED, That the study include an analysis of the 20 existing electricity transmission capacity in this State, a 21 determination of the areas of the State where additional 22 transmission capacity is needed, a determination of the areas 23 of this State where additional demand for electricity may 24 occur, the feasibility of establishing a North-South 25 transmission corridor, and an estimate of the cost of 26 implementing the recommendations contained in the study; and 27 be it further 28 RESOLVED, That the Illinois Commerce Commission, the 29 Department of Commerce and Community Affairs, and the 30 Department of Transportation report their findings and 31 recommendations to the General Assembly by October 1, 2001; -2- LRB9209023JSpcA 1 and be it further 2 RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be delivered to 3 the Chairman of the Illinois Commerce Commission, the 4 Director of Commerce and Community Affairs, and the Secretary 5 of Transportation.
