92_SR0175 SDS/92ASR0003/LThs 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to 3 express their sincere condolences to the family and friends 4 of former Illinois State Senator, Frank D. Savickas, who 5 passed away on May 14, 2001; and 6 WHEREAS, Senator Frank Savickas was the first member of 7 Lithuanian extraction to be elected to the House of 8 Representatives where he served from 1967 through 1971 and 9 the Senate where he served from 1971 through 1992; and 10 WHEREAS, Senator Frank Savickas served his 15th Senate 11 District well by being elected as Assistant Majority Leader, 12 and serving on numerous committees such as Appropriations I, 13 Committee on Assignment of Bills (Chairman); Committee on 14 Committees; Executive; Executive Appointments; Veterans' 15 Affairs and Administration; Insurance, Pensions and Licensed 16 Activities; Labor; Public Health, Welfare and Corrections; 17 Revenue; Rules; Transportation; Legislative Space Needs 18 Commission and others too numerous to mention; and 19 WHEREAS, Senator Frank Savickas was known in the House 20 and Senate as a champion of the causes of senior citizens and 21 the handicapped and disabled; he is considered the father of 22 the legislation which gave the disabled the right to be 23 educated; and 24 WHEREAS, Senator Savickas was a major political force 25 working closely with several Chicago mayoral administrations 26 for the protection of the rights of all citizens of Illinois; 27 as 15th Ward Committeeman and Assistant Majority Leader, he 28 successfully brought economic development and progress to 29 such neighborhoods as Garfield Ridge, Marquette Park, the 30 City of Burbank and other southwest side communities; he also 31 worked closely with such governmental activities and worked 32 diligently in preserving Midway Airport for its economic -2- SDS/92ASR0003/LThs 1 benefits to the neighboring communities; and 2 WHEREAS, Senator Savickas received numerous commendations 3 from community organizations for his leadership in the 4 General Assembly such as being presented with the 1988 5 Statesman of the Year Award by the International Union of 6 Operating Engineers, Local 150, for his strong advocacy for 7 all working men and women in the State of Illinois; and 8 WHEREAS, In addition to his legislative duties, Senator 9 Savickas also served as a member of the Lithuanian Chamber of 10 Commerce, Cardinal Mundelein Council of the Knights of 11 Columbus, and the Garfield Ridge Kiwanis; and 12 WHEREAS, The passing of former State Senator Frank D. 13 Savickas will be deeply felt by all who knew and loved him, 14 especially his wife, Pamela; his children, Michael, Linda 15 Silva, Sherry Brticevich, Margaret Polino, Angela Polino, and 16 Bianco Polino; his granddaughters, Kaeri, Adrienne, Tia, 17 Allison, Nicole, and Sabrina; and his many friends and 18 colleagues that have had the pleasure of working with him 19 throughout the years; therefore, be it 20 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SECOND GENERAL 21 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with 22 all who knew him, the death of Frank D. Savickas of Chicago 23 and Venice, Florida; and be it further 24 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 25 presented to the family of former Illinois State Senator 26 Frank D. Savickas with our sincere condolences.
