92_SR0323 LRB9216185BHbh 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate express their 3 sympathies to the family and friends of Ralph W. Swank of 4 Lindenhurst, who passed away January 25, 2002; and 5 WHEREAS, Mr. Swank was born October 29, 1923, in Kenosha, 6 Wisconsin to Lester and Jessie Swank; he graduated from 7 DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana, and served as a 8 Lieutenant with the US Army Air Corps in England and France 9 during World War II; and 10 WHEREAS, After attending John Marshall Law School, he 11 joined his father in business in 1953 at the Swank Insurance 12 Agency, serving as President and Chairman from 1971-2001; in 13 1979, Mr. Swank founded Statewide Insurance Company, where he 14 continued as Chairman of the Board until his death; and 15 WHEREAS, Mr. Swank was a life-long Waukegan resident, 16 serving as an alderman, on the Waukegan Housing Authority, 17 and on the Waukegan Grade School Board; he was a life member 18 of the Waukegan Yacht Club, a member of the Glen Flora 19 Country Club, and a member and past president of the Waukegan 20 Exchange Club; Mr. Swank was also a member of the First 21 United Methodist Church of Waukegan; and 22 WHEREAS, Mr. Swank will be deeply missed by his friends 23 and family, especially his wife of 55 years, Mildred; his 24 brother, Dr. Lee Swank; his sons, Ralph Jr. (Betsy), Bryan 25 (Mary), Wayne (Sheila), Jay (Betty), Rodrick (Alice), Darryl 26 (Kim) and Stuart (Annette); his daughters, Susan Martin and 27 Marianne; and his 18 grandchildren and one great-grandson; 28 therefore, be it 29 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SECOND GENERAL 30 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the death of 31 Ralph W. Swank and extend our sincere condolences to his -2- LRB9216185BHbh 1 friends and family; and be it further 2 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be sent 3 to his wife, Mildred Swank.
