92_SR0333 LRB9216205BHbh 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate express their 3 deepest condolences to the family and friends of Wayne K. 4 Nelson of North Aurora, who passed away February 7, 2002; and 5 WHEREAS, Mr. Nelson was born May 1, 1925 in Aurora to 6 Harold and Bessie Nelson; he was a 1943 graduate of East 7 Aurora High School and received his Bachelor and Master 8 Degrees from Northern Illinois University in 1950 and 1958; 9 and 10 WHEREAS, Mr. Nelson began his 35 year teaching and 11 coaching career at East High, then on to Chebanse, Okawville, 12 and Waterman, returning to Aurora to spend the last 27 years 13 as teacher, coach, and athletic director at Jefferson Middle 14 School; during his years at Jefferson, in the summer, he also 15 worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad; and 16 WHEREAS, Mr. Nelson served in World War II flying blimbs 17 from Lakehurst, New Jersey, and became a member of the first 18 crew on the U.S.S. Ticonderoga, which sustained three 19 Kamikaze attacks in the South Pacific; he went on to become 20 part of the occupation force during the surrender to the 21 Allied Powers; and 22 WHEREAS, Wayne Nelson successfully coached all sports on 23 the high and middle school levels and for many years he was a 24 well thought of football, basketball, and baseball official; 25 Mr. Nelson spent his summers at Sand Lake, fishing everyday 26 and playing golf with old friends; and 27 WHEREAS, Wayne K. Nelson will be deeply missed by all 28 those who knew him and loved him, especially his wife of 51 29 years, Lois; his sons, Craig, Kevin (Laura), Bruce (Vicki); 30 his daughters, Elizabeth "Beth" (Brian) Kish, Lynn (Randy) 31 Head; his grandchildren, Meghan and Matthew Kish, Ashley and -2- LRB9216205BHbh 1 Emily Nelson, Sharon Head, Elyssa (Mark) McLaughlin, Tom 2 Badger and Zachary Keith Nelson; his sister and 3 brother-in-law, Mary Lou and Norman Schaffer; and his nephews 4 Brian (Maureen) and Mark (Sue) Schaeffer; therefore, be it 5 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SECOND GENERAL 6 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with 7 his family and friends, the passing of Wayne K. Nelson of 8 North Aurora; and be it further 9 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be sent 10 to the his wife, Lois Nelson.
