92_SR0339 LRB9216323RHrh 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to 3 express their sincere condolences to the family and friends 4 of the Honorable William K. Richardson of Galesburg, who 5 passed away on December 31, 2001; and 6 WHEREAS, Judge William Richardson was born on December 6, 7 1913 in Galesburg to Marshall and Jessie (Custer) Richardson; 8 and 9 WHEREAS, Judge Richardson graduated from Galesburg High 10 School, Knox College, and the University of Michigan Law 11 School; and 12 WHEREAS, After graduating from law school, Judge 13 Richardson returned to Galesburg and established a law 14 office; in 1943, he was appointed as the circuit clerk and 15 recorder of deeds in Knox County and in the following year he 16 successfully ran for the office and served until 1966; in 17 1960, he was appointed to the bench in the Ninth Judicial 18 Circuit, where he retired in 1982; after his retirement, he 19 maintained regular office hours at the law firm of Hattery, 20 Simpson & West in downtown Galesburg; and 21 WHEREAS, Judge Richardson was a member of the Galesburg 22 Lions Club since 1938, having served the association as a 23 club secretary and president, and as cabinet secretary, zone 24 chairman, deputy district governor and district governor, as 25 well as an international director; in 1959 he was elected to 26 serve a two-year term as a director of the International 27 Association of Lions Clubs at the association's 42nd 28 International Convention held in New York; and 29 WHEREAS, Judge Richardson was a presenter at USA/Canada 30 forums and at several Club Improvement Workshops for Multiple 31 District 1; in honor of his contributions to the association, -2- LRB9216323RHrh 1 he received seven international President's Awards, the 2 Senior Master Key and the Ambassador of Good Will Award, the 3 highest honor bestowed upon a member by the association; he 4 was also a Progressive Melvin Jones Fellow; and 5 WHEREAS, Judge Richardson was active in other community 6 organizations such as the United Way of Knox County, the 7 Salvation Army, Crime Stoppers and the First Presbyterian 8 Church; he received a Community Service Award from the 9 Galesburg Chamber of Commerce and in December 2001, as he 10 celebrated his 50th year on the Galesburg Public Library 11 Board, the Alliance Library System recognized him for his 12 many years of outstanding service; and 13 WHEREAS, The passing of the Honorable William K. 14 Richardson will be deeply felt by all who knew and loved him, 15 especially his sister, Dorothea Richardson; his nieces and 16 nephews; and his many friends and colleagues; therefore, be 17 it 18 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SECOND GENERAL 19 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with 20 all who knew him, the death of the Honorable William K. 21 Richardson of Galesburg, Illinois; and be it further 22 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 23 presented to the family of the Honorable William K. 24 Richardson with our sincere condolences.
