 1                          SENATE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, The members  of  the  Illinois  Senate  wish  to
 3    express  their  sincere condolences to the family and friends
 4    of Dolores S. Recht, who passed away on February 8, 2002; and

 5        WHEREAS, Dolores  S.  Recht  was  a  lifelong  Republican
 6    activist  who  founded  the  Northwest  Republican  Women  of
 7    Chicago  in 1962, serving as its president three times and on
 8    its board of directors until her death; and

 9        WHEREAS, A  lifelong  resident  of  Chicago,  Mrs.  Recht
10    worked  on  political  campaigns, including Richard Ogilvie's
11    run for Cook County Board president in 1966; and

12        WHEREAS, In addition to supporting candidates and being a
13    committeewoman for what was then the 38th  Ward,  Mrs.  Recht
14    was  a consummate researcher who  researched issues involving
15    the  educational  system  in  Chicago,  global  warming,  and
16    drilling in Alaska--all with an eye  toward  countering  what
17    the  Northwest  Republican Women of Chicago organization felt
18    was a  liberal  bias  in  the  media;  she  also  sought  out
19    conservative  books  on  a  wide  range  of topics, which the
20    organization donated to local public libraries; and

21        WHEREAS,  In  addition  to  her  passion  for  Republican
22    issues, Mrs. Recht, a  University  of  Chicago  graduate  who
23    studied  political  science,  had a passion for architecture,
24    was an accomplished painter, and was a docent for the Chicago
25    Architecture Foundation for many years; and

26        WHEREAS, The passing of Dolores S. Recht will  be  deeply
27    felt  by all who knew and loved her, especially her children,
28    Leslie, Susan, John, and Michael Recht, and Emily Johnson and
29    Elizabeth Jones; therefore, be it

30        RESOLVED, BY THE  SENATE  OF  THE  NINETY-SECOND  GENERAL
31    ASSEMBLY  OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with

 1    all who knew her, the death of Dolores S. Recht  of  Chicago,
 2    Illinois; and be it further

 3        RESOLVED,  That  a  suitable  copy  of this resolution be
 4    presented to the family of Dolores S. Recht with our  sincere
 5    condolences.
