92_SR0344 LRB9216240BHbh 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened 3 to learn of the death of Pastor Emeritus Richard C. Cosey, 4 Sr., of East St. Louis, who passed away November 27, 2001; 5 and 6 WHEREAS, Pastor Cosey was born December 25, 1932, to 7 Isaac and Viola Cosey in Clarksdale, Mississippi; and 8 WHEREAS, Pastor Cosey came from a large family of 9 children who were reared by their father and loving aunt, 10 Martha B. Cosey, due to the early death of his mother; and 11 WHEREAS, Pastor Cosey was the father of seven children; 12 he married Mamie Moore on June 24, 1961; and 13 WHEREAS, When Pastor Cosey was a young energetic 14 preacher, he preached the Gospel all over the nation, and in 15 August of 1968, he was sent to East St. Louis to become the 16 pastor of Pilgrim Green Missionary Baptist Church; and 17 WHEREAS, While in East St. Louis, Pastor Cosey was 18 employed as a parole officer for the Department of 19 Corrections, Adult and Juvenile Divisions, for 22 years; 20 through his work, he was able to touch the lives of many 21 people; Pastor Cosey was very active and well respected in 22 his city, where he became known as "The Reb"; and 23 WHEREAS, Pastor Cosey will be deeply missed by all those 24 who knew him and loved him, especially his wife, Mrs. Mamie 25 Lee Cosey; his sons, Marvin (Bonnie) Cosey, Richard (Doris) 26 Cosey, Jr., and Dwaine (Laura) Cosey; his daughters, Valerie 27 (Ernest) Ball, Karen (Thomas) Mickens, Deborah (Erwin) 28 Cosey-Lane, and Angela (Mario) Cosey-Haynes; his twenty-seven 29 grandchildren, twenty-six great-grandchildren, and one 30 great-great-grandchild; his stepmother, Cora Berry; his 31 sister, Pastor Mary Alice Freeman; his stepbrother, Jessie W. -2- LRB9216240BHbh 1 Berry; his sisters-in-law, Eloise D. Cosey, Mattie Lee Cosey, 2 Geneva Cosey, Lucille Conway, Carolyn (Ulysses) Ward, Rose 3 (Morris) Hatchet, Barbara (James) Perkins, Diane Huesten, and 4 Juanita Moore; his brother-in-law, John (Norene) Moore; his 5 special aunt, Martha B. Cosey; his four godchildren, Tony and 6 Lasalle Austin, Richard Tibbs, and Carmen Reed; two special 7 friends of his family, Otis Betts, Jr., and William 8 Washington; his entire Pilgrim Green Church Family; and a 9 host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; therefore, be 10 it 11 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SECOND GENERAL 12 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with 13 his family and friends, the death of Pastor Emeritus Richard 14 C. Cosey, Sr.; and be it further 15 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 16 presented to the family of Pastor Emeritus of Richard C. 17 Cosey, Sr.
