92_SR0348 LRB9216383RHrh 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to 3 express their sincere condolences to the family and friends 4 of Gerald J. Streit, who passed away on February 20, 2002; 5 and 6 WHEREAS, Gerlad J. Streit was born on September 10, 1946 7 in Aurora, Illinois, to John P. and Rose Streit; and 8 WHEREAS, For 45 years, Mr. Streit was a member of the Boy 9 Scouts of America; as a youth, he was active in Cub Pack 326 10 at Holy Angels Church and Troop 29 at Hermes School; as an 11 adult, he was active in Troop 29 and Troop 57 at St. Joseph 12 Church; he served for ten full summers on staff at 13 Chin-be-gota Scout Reservation; at the district level of the 14 Boy Scouts, he served on various committees, especially the 15 District Activities Committee; at the council level, he 16 served on many committees including the Executive Board of 17 Two Rivers Council, where he served as the Council's Vice 18 President; at the regional level, he participated on the 19 summer camp accreditation committee and worked with multiple 20 councils to bring summer camp experiences to the Boy Scouts 21 of Fox Valley; and 22 WHEREAS, Mr. Streit was recognized with various awards 23 including the Vigil Honor, the Charles Pierce Burton Award, 24 the Silver Beaver, the Silver Antelope, and the Distinguished 25 Eagle Scout Award; and 26 WHEREAS, Mr. Streit also served on many committees at St. 27 Joseph Catholic Church in Aurora; he was a lector, 28 Eucharistic Minister, member of the Music Ensemble, and 29 President of the Parish Council; he was a Minister of Care 30 for many years to the Aurora Nursing Home; on the diocesan 31 level of the church, he was certified in the Ministry 32 Formation program, assisted in various Diocesan programs, and -2- LRB9216383RHrh 1 was a part of the Cursillo movement; and 2 WHEREAS, Mr. Streit graduated from Marmion Academy and 3 received his bachelor's degree from the University of Dayton 4 and his master's degree from Northern Illinois University; he 5 was a project manager for Alltel Communications at Harris 6 Bank in Chicago, where he was employed for 25 years; and 7 WHEREAS, Mr. Streit believed in the concept of endowment 8 funds; he started the Eagle Scout Endowment at the Aurora 9 Foundation, the St. Joseph Financial Aid Endowment at Marmion 10 Academy, and the Reverend Thomas Schoen Scholarship at the 11 University of Dayton; he participated in the Hesed House 12 Endowment, the Three Fires Council Endowment, and the Fred 13 and Barb Miller Endowment at the Aurora Foundation; and 14 WHEREAS, The passing of Gerald J. Streit will be deeply 15 felt by all who knew and loved him, especially his wife, Mary 16 Virginia Streit and his step-son, Mark Kazak; therefore, be 17 it 18 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SECOND GENERAL 19 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with 20 all who knew him, the death of Gerald J. Streit of Aurora, 21 Illinois; and be it further 22 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 23 presented to the family of Gerald J. Streit with our sincere 24 condolences.
