92_SR0351 LRB9216377RHrhA 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate express their 3 sincere condolences to the family and friends of Ronald 4 Leversen, who passed away February 12, 2002; and 5 WHEREAS, Mr. Leversen was born in Chicago in 1930 and was 6 married to Dolores Leversen for 45 years; and 7 WHEREAS, Mr. Leversen joined the Navy during World War II 8 and after his return worked as a mechanic for a car 9 dealership; he was recalled to service during the Korean War 10 and served another year; and 11 WHEREAS, Ronald Leversen and his father opened Granger 12 Oldsmobile in La Grange in 1953; Mr. Leversen bought out his 13 father and he ran the dealership by himself, eventually 14 moving it to Countryside; he provided automobiles for the 15 driver's education classes at Lyons Township High School and 16 Hinsdale South High School; his dealership also sponsored 17 many Little League and softball teams; and 18 WHEREAS, During the 1960s, Ronald Leversen laid the 19 groundwork for the Brookhaven Civic Organization, a 20 consortium of neighborhoods that worked for the passage of a 21 referendum item incorporating Darien in 1969; and 22 WHEREAS, Mr. Leversen served on the Darien Pension 23 Committee and in 1986 was named the Darien Citizen of the 24 Year; he was an active charter member of the Darien Lions 25 Club, and instituted the NEEDY program, which provides food 26 for families in need; Mr. Leversen was named Lion of the Year 27 in 1973; and 28 WHEREAS, Mr. Leversen was active in Darien School 29 District 61, serving on the Board of Education from 1969 to 30 1975; he was instrumental in building Eisenhower Junior High, 31 Fairview Elementary School, and Mark DeLay Elementary School -2- LRB9216377RHrhA 1 while serving on the district's Building and Safety 2 Committee; and 3 WHEREAS, Mr. Leversen was a supportive husband, father 4 and grandfather and will be deeply missed by all those who 5 knew him and loved him, especially his wife, Dolores; his 6 sons, Jeff and Daniel; his daughter, Lynn Keane; his sister, 7 Ruth Ticaric; and his five grandchildren; therefore, be it 8 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SECOND GENERAL 9 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with 10 his family and friends, Ronald Leversen; and be it further 11 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 12 presented to the family of Ronald Leversen with our sincere 13 condolences.
