92_SR0372 LRB9216501BHbh 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened 3 to learn of the death of John Wesley Fribley of Pana, who 4 passed away March 20, 2002; and 5 WHEREAS, Mr. Fribley was born August 3, 1906, in 6 Assumption, the son of Wesley D. and Clara Belle Storey 7 Fribley; he went to Dunkel Rural School, Assumption High 8 School, Illinois Wesleyan University, and the College of Law 9 at the University of Illinois; Mr. Fribley graduated and was 10 admitted to practice law in 1930; and 11 WHEREAS, Mr. Fribley was a lawyer for 50 years, serving 12 in state and federal courts from his offices in Pana, until 13 he retired in 1987; a number of lawyers worked for him, 14 including his son, Joseph L. Fribley, and George J. 15 LaCharite, David Duez, James L. Profitt, John P. Coady (now a 16 circuit judge), Thomas W. Lacy, and George P. Consoer; and 17 WHEREAS, A Democrat, Mr. Fribley was an Illinois State 18 Senator from 1934-1952, representing the 40th Senate 19 District, originally composed of Christian, Shelby, Fayette, 20 and Cumberland counties; he helped investigate the Centralia 21 mine disaster and was co-sponsor of the Illinois Mine Safety 22 Law; Mr. Fribley sponsored the Fame-to-Market Road Law, which 23 aided rural townships in the construction of township roads; 24 and 25 WHEREAS, Mr. Fribley was a Downstate floor leader for 26 then-Governor Adlai E. Stevenson and was responsible for many 27 major acts of legislation during his long career there; one 28 of Mr. Fribley's finest memories was evidenced by a picture 29 of Governor Stevenson, autographed with the personal note, 30 "To John Fribley, a dear friend and good man in a storm!"; 31 and -2- LRB9216501BHbh 1 WHEREAS, Mr. Fribley was a major organizer of Peoples 2 Bank of Pana and was city attorney for Pana; he was a member 3 of United Presbyterian Church, Pana Masonic Lodge 226, AF & 4 AM, Ansar Shrine and Pana Rotary Club; and 5 WHEREAS, John Fribley married Marian E. Little on April 6 21, 1931, in Rosamond; she preceded him in death July 30, 7 1997; and 8 WHEREAS, Mr. Fribley will be deeply missed by all those 9 who knew him and loved him, especially his son, Joseph L. 10 (Carolyn); his daughter Judith A.; his grandchildren, Scott 11 W., Susan K. Fribley Rae, and Valerie A. Fribley Barnes; his 12 great-grandsons, John G., Cameron M., and Gavin J. Rae; and 13 his great-granddaughter, Morgan M. Barnes; therefore, be it 14 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SECOND GENERAL 15 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with 16 his family and friends, the death of John Wesley Fribley of 17 Pana; and be it further 18 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 19 presented to the family of John Wesley Fribley with our 20 sincere condolences.
