92_SR0387 LRB9216577BHbhA 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened 3 to learn of the passing of William P. Tomy of Downers Grove, 4 who died March 25, 2002; and 5 WHEREAS, Mr. Tomy was director of information technology 6 for Material Service Corporation in Chicago; and 7 WHEREAS, Mr. Tomy was born in Chicago and raised in 8 Elmhurst; he became interested in computers in the mid-1960s, 9 when his mother, Eleanor, suggested that her son might find a 10 future in the field; he attended Elmhurst College, but soon 11 enrolled in a computer school in Chicago, where he became 12 fascinated by the language of the new electronic devices and 13 their technology; and 14 WHEREAS, In 1972, Mr. Tomy was hired as an assistant 15 analyst at Material Service Corp., a producer of construction 16 materials; he learned more about computer programming and 17 quickly rose through the ranks, finally being named director 18 of the information technology department; and 19 WHEREAS, Mr. Tomy was an excellent manager and a very 20 forward thinker; he truly loved his job and those he worked 21 with; Mr. Tomy worked for Material Service Corp. for 32 22 years; and 23 WHEREAS, As important as work was to Mr. Tomy, he also 24 delighted in spending as much time as possible with loved 25 ones; his family outings included dozens of boating 26 excursions; Mr. Tomy loved his children and he would do 27 anything for them; and 28 WHEREAS, Mr. Tomy will be deeply missed by all those who 29 knew him and loved him, especially his wife, Patricia; his 30 daughters, Christine Randa and Tracy Johnson; his father, 31 Paul; his brother, Robert; and his granddaughter; therefore, -2- LRB9216577BHbhA 1 be it 2 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SECOND GENERAL 3 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with 4 his family and friends, the passing of William P. Tomy of 5 Downers Grove; and be it further 6 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 7 presented to the family of William P. Tomy with our most 8 sincere condolences.
