92_SR0423 LRB9216747BHbh 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are deeply 3 saddened to learn of the death of Joi Verneice Price of 4 Springfield, who passed away on April 23, 2002 at the tender 5 age of 19; and 6 WHEREAS, Joi Price was born September 2, 1982, in 7 Kankakee to Eddie J. Price, Jr. and Mary D. Price; and 8 WHEREAS, Miss Price was a student at Kentucky State 9 University in Frankfort, Kentucky, where she was a 10 presidential scholarship recipient and was a member of the 11 Whitney Young Honors Society; and 12 WHEREAS, Miss Price was Treasurer of her sophomore class; 13 she participated in the Alpha Kappa Alpha Fashionetta 2000, 14 and received the Award of Excellence, Miss Congeniality, an 15 award for "Most Active in Communities", and the Alpha Kappa 16 Alpha Fashionetta Scholarship; Miss Price also received the 17 NAACP Award and Rainbow PUSH Scholarship her freshman and 18 sophomore year; she was a member of American Honor Scholar 19 Student and a member of Who's Who Among American High School 20 Students and Who's Who Among American College Students; and 21 WHEREAS, Miss Price was a 2000 graduate of Springfield 22 High School, where she was treasurer of Students of All 23 Races, Spanish Club, PEACE, and received Oratory Honorary 24 Mentions by the Principal Scholars Program; she was a member 25 of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, where she received a Lillie 26 B. Smith Foundation Scholarship; Miss Price was a former 27 member of Pearls of Praise and a member of the Ambassadors 28 for Christ; and 29 WHEREAS, Joi Price was formerly employed by Feitshans 30 Safe Haven, Osco Drugs, Illinois State Treasurer, and 31 Secretary of State Department of Accounting Revenue, and she -2- LRB9216747BHbh 1 was a former Illinois State Senate Page; and 2 WHEREAS, Joi Verneice Price will be deeply missed by all 3 those who knew her and loved her, especially her parents, 4 Eddie J. and Mary D. Price, Jr.; her sister, Aisha Yvette 5 Price; her brothers, Malcolm (wife, Samantha) Price and Kwame 6 Price; her half-brother, Daniel Roach; her half-sister, Tempe 7 Williams; her grandparents, Hilmor and Maggie Moore and 8 Edwinah Price; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, and 9 nephews; therefore be it 10 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SECOND GENERAL 11 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with 12 all those who knew her and loved her, the passing of Joi 13 Verneice Price of Springfield; and be it further 14 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 15 presented to the family of Joi Verneice Price with our most 16 sincere condolences.
