 1                          SENATE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, Michael P. Hryn passed away at his home in Palos
 3    Heights on  May 12, 2002; and

 4        WHEREAS, Mr. Hryn's career in the  housing  industry  was
 5    outstanding;  he  started  as a concrete finisher, along with
 6    his brother John in the early 1960s;  the  company  prospered
 7    and  in  the  late  1970s  Michael  started  his venture into
 8    residential  home  building;  a   new  company  was   formed,
 9    Michael-John  General  Contractors,  and  Michael  officially
10    began his career in residential home construction; and

11        WHEREAS,  During the tough market conditions of the early
12    1980s, Mr. Hryn  became  actively  involved  with  the  South
13    Suburban   Home   Builders   Association;   he  chaired  many
14    committees and served as the Secretary,  Treasurer  and  Vice
15    President;  his  abilities  and attitude led him to serve two
16    terms, in 1985 and 1986, as President of SSHBA; and

17        WHEREAS,  Mr.  Hryn's  continued  service  to  his  local
18    association led him to become active with the  Home  Builders
19    Association  of Illinois in the early 1990s; after serving on
20    several  committees  at  the  State  level,  he  was  elected
21    Secretary of HBAI in 1994; he went on to serve as  Treasurer,
22    Senior Vice President and then President in 1997; and

23        WHEREAS,  Michael's natural aptitude for leadership roles
24    also led him to become active at the national level; he was a
25    Life Director of the National Association of  Home  Builders,
26    served  several  terms  as  a  PAC Trustee at NAHB, and was a
27    member of the NAHB Budget Committee; and

28        WHEREAS, Michael Hryn always had a great attitude when it
29    came to getting things done; when builders  in  Chicago  were
30    being sued for failing to comply with federal guidelines, Mr.
31    Hryn  went  to  Washington  to  meet  with  the Department of

 1    Justice; his efforts to try and find better ways to meet  the
 2    federal standard resulted in a priority response to the issue
 3    from  NAHB;  training  programs  were  started because of his
 4    efforts; and

 5        WHEREAS, In the late 1990s, Mr. Hryn headed a task  force
 6    that   developed   a  Quality  Assurance  Program  for  local
 7    associations  and  their  customers;  the  Illinois   Quality
 8    Assurance  Program  has  now  been  adopted  by  three  local
 9    associations  in  Illinois  and  is  growing  each  day; this
10    program  provides  consumers  with  a  written  documentation
11    spelling out  the  guidelines  and  responsibilities  of  the
12    contractor; and

13        WHEREAS,  The  construction  company Michael Hryn started
14    with his son "Mac" in  the early 1990s continues  to  provide
15    quality   communities   and   homes   for  northern  Illinois
16    residents; and

17        WHEREAS, Michael Hryn was always a  strong  supporter  of
18    his association; he was easy to talk to and always willing to
19    share his experiences with his fellow builders; never the shy
20    one,  he  was  passionate about what he believed in and never
21    failed to make his point; he will be  sorely  missed  by  his
22    family, friends, and fellow builders; and

23        WHEREAS,   Michael  Hryn will be deeply missed by all who
24    knew him and loved him, especially  his  wife  Virginia,  his
25    son  Michael (Mac), his daughters Danielle, Donna, and Denise
26    and his several grandchildren; therefore, be it

27        RESOLVED, BY THE  SENATE  OF  THE  NINETY-SECOND  GENERAL
28    ASSEMBLY  OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
29    all who knew him, the death of Michael Hryn of Palos Heights,
30    Illinois; and be it further

31        RESOLVED, That a suitable  copy  of  this  resolution  be

 1    presented  to  the family of Michael P. Hryn with our sincere
 2    condolences.
