92_SR0455 LRB9217095RHrh 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to 3 express their sincere condolences to the family and friends 4 of Amos I. Jones, who passed away on May 28, 2002; and 5 WHEREAS, Amos I. Jones was born on August 19, 1927, in 6 Quitman, Mississippi to the late Mamie Roberts Jones and Ed 7 Jones, Sr; and 8 WHEREAS, Mr. Jones attended Daniel Hand boarding school 9 at Tougaloo College in Mississippi and graduated from Lake 10 Forest High School in 1947; he earned his bachelor's degree 11 at the University of Illinois which he attended on a football 12 scholarship and his master's degree at Roosevelt University; 13 and 14 WHEREAS, Mr. Jones served in the United States Army; he 15 was a lifetime member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity and a 16 member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church; and 17 WHEREAS, Mr. Jones taught for one year at the old 18 Commonwealth grade school; he was also a teacher, 19 administrator, and coach at North Chicago High School for 37 20 years, retiring in 1991; and 21 WHEREAS, The passing of Amos I. Jones will be deeply felt 22 by all who knew and loved him, especially his wife, Cleo 23 Jones, his sons, Michael, Ronald (wife, Linda), and Steve 24 (Shenia) Jones; his brother, Walter R. Jones (Marie); his 25 sisters-in-law, Chris Jones and Edith Whitlock; his 26 grandchildren, Tiara, Tiana, Tashara, Steven, Quiyanna, 27 Marnika, and Martin; and his several nieces, nephews, 28 cousins, and friends; therefore, be it 29 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SECOND GENERAL 30 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with 31 all who knew him, the death of Amos I. Jones; and be it -2- LRB9217095RHrh 1 further 2 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 3 presented to the family of Amos I. Jones with our sincere 4 condolences.
