92_SR0472 LRB9217354BHbh 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened 3 to learn of the death of Catherine Adrienne Neal of Chicago, 4 who passed away July 2, 2002; and 5 WHEREAS, Ms. Neal was born March 22, 1917, in North 6 Chicago, the daughter of Martin and Elizabeth Neal; she 7 graduated from Holy Child High School in 1935, earned a 8 Registered Nursing degree from St. Therese Hospital in 9 Waukegan in 1940, and in 1942, she received a Bachelor's 10 degree in chemistry from Barat College in Lake Forest; in 11 1975, she earned a Master's degree in hospital administration 12 from the University of Southern California; and 13 WHEREAS, Ms. Neal was a First Lieutenant in the 166th 14 Division of the Army Nurse Corp and served in a field 15 hospital in France during World War II; after the war she 16 came back to Lake County and operated the Neal Mink Ranch in 17 Gurnee from 1946 through 1967; she served as president of the 18 Illinois Fur Breeders Association in the early 1960s, the 19 first woman to ever hold the office; Ms. Neal then lived in 20 Orange County, California, for eighteen years before 21 returning to Gurnee in 1987; and 22 WHEREAS, Ms. Neal was a member of St. Patrick's Church in 23 Wadsworth and a member of the Women's Golf League at Bonnie 24 Brook Golf Course in Waukegan; she was the Lake County 25 Women's Amateur Golf Champion in 1942 for low gross, and in 26 1992, she won the title again for low net; and 27 WHEREAS, Catherine Adrienne Neal will be deeply missed by 28 all those who knew her and loved her, especially her sister, 29 Patricia (Mark) Balms; her sisters-in-law, Julia (John) Neal 30 and Mary (Paul) Neal; her life-long friends, Helen Hayner, 31 Jim Hayner, and his family, Nancy, Katey, and Danny, whom she 32 considered her own; her many loving nieces, nephews, -2- LRB9217354BHbh 1 great-nieces, and great-nephews; and her special friend since 2 early childhood, Earl Atkinson; therefore, be it 3 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SECOND GENERAL 4 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with 5 her family and friends, the passing of Catherine Adrienne 6 Neal; and be it further 7 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 8 presented to the family of Catherine Adrienne Neal with our 9 sincere condolences.
