92_SR0509 LRB9217874LBprB 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to 3 express their sincere condolences to the family and friends 4 of Phoebe Irene Angel, who passed away on September 13, 2002; 5 and 6 WHEREAS, Phoebe Irene Angel, the daughter of a 7 Pentecostal preacher, grew up in the 1920s in the foothills 8 of southeastern Missouri; she traveled to church on Sunday 9 mornings by horse-drawn wagon because cars were not then 10 accessible to that part of the Ozark region; she walked miles 11 to a one-room schoolhouse for 2 years, after which she was 12 taught at home; and 13 WHEREAS, While Mrs. Angel did not receive a formal 14 education, she was still a very wise woman; she taught first 15 graders in Sunday school and was known for her creative ideas 16 to help the children learn and apply Biblical concepts; she 17 continued to teach classes of Sunday school children until 18 she was 83 years old, when she decided to let "the younger 19 people" take over; and 20 WHEREAS, Phoebe Angel's love of life and learning was an 21 inspiration to her children; she exposed them to home 22 schooling in their childhood; through this method of 23 education, Mrs. Angel was able to impart not only the 24 standard curriculum and music lessons, but also provide her 25 children with the wisdom of other life lessons; two of her 26 daughters followed in her footsteps and decided to home 27 school their own children; and 28 WHEREAS, The passing of Phoebe Irene Angel will be deeply 29 felt by all who knew and loved her, especially her five 30 children, fourteen grandchildren, twenty-eight great 31 grandchildren, and seven great-great grandchildren; therefore 32 be it -2- LRB9217874LBprB 1 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SECOND GENERAL 2 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with 3 all who knew her, the death of Phoebe Irene Angel; and be it 4 further 5 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 6 presented to Fran Eaton, daughter of Phoebe Irene Angel, with 7 our sincere condolences.
