92_SR0534 LRB9217520RHrh 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to 3 express their sincerest condolences to the family and friends 4 of John J. Frieburg, Jr., who passed away on July 13, 2002; 5 and 6 WHEREAS, John L. Frieburg Jr., was the former executive 7 vice president of Bank & Trust Co. of Arlington Heights and a 8 longtime community volunteer who strongly believed in giving 9 back to his community; and 10 WHEREAS, Mr. Frieburg was the past president of the 11 Arlington Heights Rotary Club, the Arlington Heights Senior 12 Center, the Arlington Heights Historical Society, and the 13 Arlington Heights Chamber of Commerce, where Mr. Frieburg 14 served as president in 1973; he also served on several 15 committees and was chairman of the Ambassador's Committee, 16 which welcomes new chamber members; and 17 WHEREAS, Born on a farm in Saybrook, Illinois, Mr. 18 Frieburg graduated from Downstate LeRoy High School; he 19 attended Texas A&M University before he was drafted into the 20 United States Army in 1943; and 21 WHEREAS, Mr. Frieburg served in the 90th Infantry 22 Division as company commander and was involved in the Battle 23 of the Bulge; he received a Purple Heart after being wounded 24 by a mortar shell and was discharged in 1945; and 25 WHEREAS, Mr. Frieburg returned to LeRoy and opened an 26 electrical appliance store, which he operated for several 27 years until he decided to go into banking; he worked as a 28 bank teller at LeRoy State Bank and within a few years became 29 a bank examiner for the State in 1958, when he moved to 30 Arlington Heights; and 31 WHEREAS, At the same time Mr. Frieburg returned to school -2- LRB9217520RHrh 1 and graduated from the Graduate School of Banking at the 2 University of Wisconsin in the mid-1960s; following 3 graduation, he joined the Bank & Trust Co. of Arlington 4 Heights and served as executive vice president; he left in 5 1981 with plans to retire but a year later joined Suburban 6 Bank Group in Arlington Heights, which later became Harris 7 Bank; he retired from Harris Bank as a calling officer in 8 2001; and 9 WHEREAS, Mr. Frieburg helped raise funds for the 10 Northwest Community Hospital Foundation and the local 11 branches of the United Way and Salvation Army; and 12 WHEREAS, In 1999, Mr. Frieburg was named Citizen of the 13 Year by the Chamber of Commerce; and 14 WHEREAS, The passing of John L. Frieburg Jr., will be 15 deeply felt by all who knew and loved him, especially his 16 wife of 58 years, Mary Carol; his sons, Michael (Mary) and 17 John L. III (Melanie); his daughter, Carol; his sisters 18 Patricia Fuller and Eileen Alleman; and his grandchildren, 19 Becky (fiance, Brent Wallace), Jeremy, Megan, Bradley, and 20 Christopher; therefore, be it 21 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SECOND GENERAL 22 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with 23 all who knew him, the death of John L. Frieburg Jr., of 24 Arlington Heights, Illinois; and be it further 25 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 26 presented to the family of John L. Frieburg Jr. with our 27 sincere condolences.
