 1                          SENATE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, The members  of  the  Senate  of  the  State  of
 3    Illinois  were  saddened  to learn of the death of William A.
 4    Boone of Glencoe on Saturday, August 3, 2002; and

 5        WHEREAS, Mr. Boone was born on the North Side and in 1932
 6    graduated from Senn High School where he played  trumpet  and
 7    coronet in a national championship-winning marching band; and

 8        WHEREAS,  He  attended the University of Iowa and majored
 9    in business; while in college, he wrestled,  played  football
10    and was voted the Best Dressed Man on Campus; and

11        WHEREAS,  Mr.  Boone was a Boy Scout while growing up and
12    many  times  served  as  the  camp  bugler;  he   served   as
13    scoutmaster  for the  Boy Scouts of America as a young father
14    and maintained a lifelong interest in the organization; and

15        WHEREAS, Mr. Boone was the former  President  of  Bell  &
16    Gossett Company and ITT Fluid Handling Division; during World
17    War  II, he was proud that the company supplied the Navy with
18    heat exchangers for its submarines; he retired at the age  of
19    60; and

20        WHEREAS,  Mr. Boone moved to Glencoe in 1971 after living
21    in Winnetka for about 30 years; in his free time, he  enjoyed
22    history  and  archeology; he served as a docent for more than
23    10 years at the  Oriental  Institute  of  the  University  of
24    Chicago;  he  traced  the genealogy of his family, dating his
25    ancestry to Daniel Boone on his father's side and  clan  Ross
26    on his mother's side; and

27        WHEREAS,  Mr.  Boone  took pleasure in reading as well as
28    tracing the derivation and usage of words; he was a car  club
29    member and was especially fascinated by vintage Bentleys from
30    the  1920s and 1930s which he collected, restored and entered
31    in races; while in his seventies,  he  learned  to  play  the

 1    bagpipes; and

 2        WHEREAS,  Mr.  Boone's  younger sister, Marjorie, and his
 3    first two wives, Eleanor Gossett and Margaret  Davis  Gilgis,
 4    preceded him in death; and

 5        WHEREAS,  Mr.  Boone's passing will be deeply felt by all
 6    who knew him, especially his wife, Florence, a former village
 7    president of Glencoe;  his  sons,  David  Corry,  William  G.
 8    Boone,  Andrew Boone, Lawrence Corry, and Stewart Gilgis; his
 9    daughters, Carol Boone Strohbehn, Sheila Carlstedt, and  Anne
10    McFarland;    and    his    13    grandchildren   and   three
11    great-grandchildren; therefore, be it

12        RESOLVED, BY THE  SENATE  OF  THE  NINETY-SECOND  GENERAL
13    ASSEMBLY  OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing
14    of  a  great  citizen  of  Illinois  and  offer  our  sincere
15    condolences to the family of William  A.  Boone;  and  be  it
16    further

17        RESOLVED,  That  a  suitable  copy  of this resolution be
18    presented to the family of William A. Boone with our  deepest
19    sympathy.
